Talking new Curve -- couple of questions

Please Login to Remove!

I got the new 8330 -- currently charging it. I got it for less $$ than I expected even. When the sales guy checked, he said I was eligible for a lower price than the deal for $199 with the $50 rebate. so I am a happy camper today!!

Questions... what to do first, changing from the 8703e. It's currently on the wall charger. I haven't hooked it up to the computer yet.

I currently have Desktop Manager 4.2.18. Should I uninstall it and install the new version that's on the CD?

Do I need to uninstall the OS for the 8703e before installing the new device OS? Just wondering in case I might need to revert back to the 8703e if anything went wrong with the Curve, but I don't want to confuse things, either.

TIA.

There have been many questions about the DM. I have not had any luck with 4.3, I have tried it numerous times. I have been using DM 4.2 SP2 for a while now and have been very happy. I remember Dawg talking about it and he said he has not had any problems with 4.3 so it's something you will have to try.

As far as the O.S, no you don't have to remove any other copies. Good luck with the Curve, you will love it.

I have an 8330 from Verizon.... Yours from Verizon?

If so I recommed you download the latest version of DTMgr from the VERIZON site. Same for the OS. I had days of grief over trying to load 3rd party apps and sync. Finally got it all going when, with a replacement Curve, I loaded their version of DTMgr and OS.

Once installed check the Loader version for 4.3.0.18. Since using their software, my phone has behaved.

Wirelessly posted

I recently switched blackberrys, and here is what I would do. Download the latest version of desktop manager, whichever copy you want, and then use the switching device wizard. I went from an 8700 to an 8310 using that method, and it was flawless! It couldn't be easier. Just hook up the 8700, use that wizard, when prompted plug the curve in for the first time - it will do it all!

Wish I read this before I did mine! That would have saved a lot of time.

Also, I think I have read that leaving out the media manager will help the desktop manager perform better. I know it is very slow if you try to open it. Much easier to transfer music, photos, etc. by transferring to the card rather than the medai application.

Yes, it's Verizon. I think I'll try it with the current DM and if there are problems then I'll download the new one.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Ok I didn't anticipate this. When I connect the Curve, Windows says it found new hardware and prompts me to install the new hardware. So I put in the CD and it looks and looks and doesn't find what it's looking for, then says the device might not work properly. And the Desktop Manager doesn't recognize it. Guess I'll download the new version of DM and see it that makes Windows happy.

Not sure from you post, but you should install before plugging in the curve.

Install what? The device OS, or the new Desktop Manager? I was running the DM to switch devices when I first connected the new device.

I was referring to the desktop manager. If you had it installed, then I was wrong. It was just a thought. You may be on track that the new version of the desktop manager will help the computer to identify it.

Thanks, I am loving this Curve. I haven't done much else besides play with it since I got it. I like the trackball -- it's much easier on the thumbs than the trackwheel, and it was very easy to get used to. I don't have a media card and there are a few more features I haven't explored fully yet.

Welcome to the Curve world. I love mine, too (from Sprint).

I have a 4GB card in mine (from my 8330). I have a zillion pics on it and I've barely made a dent in the available memory.

Thanks! I'm going to get a media card today, looking forward to having music on the device.
