Default Text Messages deleting themselves?

Please Login to Remove!

I didn't change any settings or anything but for some reason my text messages keep deleting themselves. How do I turn thtis off, or where do I go to get rid of that?

Is there any reason whyt hey would have started deleting themselves.

I haven't even had the phone for 30 days, let alone having 30 day old text messages.

Thanks,
Nik

It's a common problem due to low memory. Please look in Options >Status and post the number next to "file free."

Then reboot the BB by removing the battery and follow these instructions:

Reason: Low Memory.

Solution: Better memory management.

Of course, if not a memory issue, you could have your SMS set to delete after 30 days.

Thats after the battery pull correct? I am sure the number was much lower prior to the pull.

That's before the battery pull. I pulled the battery and now it's 18817645 bytes.

Do you use the "Switch Application" a lot from the Home screen?

Goto the message folder and hit Menu>Options>General Options>Keep Messages = ? (15?) change it to FOREVER.

Yes. If you use it often it will use up memory and start the memory cleaning process (deleting emails, call logs, etc.) RIM says after around 25 uses.

Default Same problem and nobody seems to know how to fix it

Hey Nik,

I also have been having the same problem with my T-Mobile Blackberry. Not only will my messages automatically delete but my call list as well. All by itself. I was reading the posts to your question and sounds like a bunch of bull to me. I took my phone to the T-Mobile store and they performed an ALT + LGLG command on it, cleared out the log file, pulled out the battery and said the problem would now be fixed. Later on that day, it did it again. Today, my phone just did it, and I checked the Event Log using that LG command and it cleared itself out as well so thats not the cause. Under options, my file free is 219036 Bytes without the battery being removed first. I'm sure it will be larger once I do that but I'm pretty sure this is not the cause since this seems to happen every couple days. Also, my messages are set to be kept forever. I don't know...seems like nobody knows the true reason on why it does this and its frustrating. I would like someone to prove me wrong. Thanks.

Nick, you read the links John Clark provided and think all that sounds like a bunch of bull to you? You think some punk Tmobile rep knows more than several of the advanced users on this forum?

Think again.

Here's a couple more links for you:
Managing your BB Memory - Lost Call Logs and SMS

Why is my BlackBerry losing its call logs or message logs? - BlackBerryFAQ

And again, because it is absolutely the best help thread on the entire internet on this subject:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...memory-15.html

You have less than a quarter MB of file free. You have EXTREMELY low memory, and until you do more than pull the battery and delete the event log, you will continue to be plagued by loss of call logs and texts, next calendar entries and mail messages.

Good luck.

If you don't have one get a media card for storing pics and ringtones, etc. Move any on device memory to the card.

Wow. First post and he's calling bull on John Clark and JSanders who have over 60,000 posts between them? Wow, you guys sure had me fooled. It must be my imagination that I had that problem when I first got the curve and that it hasn't returned since I ran John Clark's memory optimization and that I now run it everytime I upgrade my OS. Of course, it could be simply coincidental that I haven't had the problem since then.

Pure conincidence. Nobody knows the true reason for call log/email/sms deletions. My post is a farse. Nobody should use it. Of course 200k+ page views doesn't mean anything either

Your messages are deleting because your device has run out of memory. You need to free up memory or this will continue to happen. Resetting the device by pulling the battery will free up some for a short time but the same thing will happen again.

1. Get a media card and move any pictures, ringtones, etc. over to it from the device memory. Do NOT store media on the device memory.

2. Follow the instructions here:
