Maybe I can at least save you some time.
Uninstall both the OS you installed to the desktop and the Desk Top Manager, (DTMgr). Check the box to confirm you want to delete your user settings. Restart your computer.
Go to this location for the newest Verizon software, (don't use software from another site even if it appears to be the same version. Also ignore the disk that came with the device, the last update was late May, your disk probably doesn’t have the latest version).

DTMgr Verizon Curve 8330: Desktop Software
Install the DTMgr; restart the computer; install the OS; then plug in your Curve.
Check to be sure you have the right software check "Help/About/Components and look at the Loader version. It should be v 220.127.116.11. The OS version is 18.104.22.168.
Do a backup and then try to install your new apps.
