Why can BlackBerry not do something like this??

I can't tell. Does this backup on the SD card? The BB and all it's contents can be backed up on the PC with Desktop Manager.

I DO NOT want to use desk top manager. I want to be able to do a back-up onto the SD card directly from the BB. This would serve usefull if not with my laptop and my phone bricked. all I would have to do is insert the SD card into the new phone and shazam .... restore my new phone.

Hopefully, that will come one day. Nothing as of yet.

Probably because the BB doesn't die and eat all its data at the same time like a Pam or WM device. One of the reasons I left WM and Treos. Happened all the time with my Treo 600s and 650. Not happened once with any of my BBs.

You'd have to ask RIM. I've never needed it. But then again, I'm on BES and have wireless backup.

I am not an expert with BES. I have tried the wireless backup option with a test device. I created few new address, memopad, tasks. After doing a wipe and activating the device again, all tasks, memopad are restored from wireless backup, but the addresses which i created does not get restored.

Does the addresses get wirelessly backedup ? Please guide.

I would say that RIM does not allow it for security. Sounds like it would be too easy to get hold of someone's device and pull all the info off of it to a SD card. Maybe in the future but not now.
