i've got the 8310 (i use it on tmo's network), about to download the latest DM (v4.5) from RIM's web site (still using 4.3.0.17).
so is 4.5.0.52 running stable for the most part ? i'm still using 4.2.2.194 on mine and i want to switch to get the added video camera feature as well as what else has been updated...

although the changes are refreshing...it's still got the same menu system....guess i was expecting something dramatic with this OS since it's going to be on the bold....perhaps another generation needs to pass for things to get totally revamped.
does anyone know if music playback on this OS is seamless (gapless) ?

Anyone else noticed a problem with the message indicator LED? Usually it works fine, but about once a day I find it gets 'stuck' on. The flashing red light won't stop, even if I read one of my unread messages.
The only way I've found so far of stopping it is a battery pull.
I'm currently trying to fathom whether this happens on all of my profiles, or just one of them.
Thanks,
P.

Paul, you profile says you have the 8300. Did you load the 8310 OS to your 8300, or profile just not up to date?
I have not noticed an LED issue with my upgrade, but this .37 OS has many bugs...

I've actually got a whole drawer full of BlackBerrys here, but I'm currently using an 8310.
So please ignore the profile!

So far so good my battery had been lasting longer. I turned off Location aiding and my battery has hardly drained.
The only thing is if I check spelling in a post reply, I then need to use view mode to move out of box to press post reply tab. Still the 4.5.0.46 is much better

I have never upgraded a phone before. I am not really sure how it works. I was wondering why some people are waiting to upgrade and others don't? Is this an offical release? What is better for me to do?

I assume you're presently on 4.2.xx. The latest official release is v4.5.0.37 which gives you a neater interface, video and voice recording, but it still has a few issues. Versions later than .37 are beta which you have to hunt around for, plus you can see from this thread that some people are still having problems.
If you're unsure I'd recommend sticking with your present OS until there's a later official release of v4.5 - you shouldn't have long to wait, but check back here for the chorus of approval before downloading.
Hope this helps.

While updating to the new 4.5 OS, i think that i have bricked my phone. Now my BB wont connect to the desktop manager and displays an all white screen with a black horizontal line across it. Pressing the Alt and Shift keys will display their respective icon on the top right corner of the screen. Pressing the BB menu will display a small black dot on the bottom left corner of the screen. Nothing else comes up. Trackball moves the black horizontal line a few inches upa and down only. During the update, i think that my BB timed out and password locked itself. The DM displayed something like "the multi something was not able to proceed". Can anyone help? How do i restore to original OS?

Thank you for your reply. I will look into it and let you know of the results.
EDIT: Tried the JL Cmder and was able to load 4.5 OS. Thanks so much for the help. It is crucial to establish connection from Jl Cmder to the BB ROM. Once that is established the install should be a success. All prior install errors did not have this link establised which is difficult because JL Cmder did not or could not locate BB USB. Just keep trying until you get "Connect to Device ROM".

Before you wipe try re installing the 4.5 again.
You had the vendor XML removed and did it make it through the first initialization

Downloaded 4.5 -
07-05-2008, 01:21 PM
I have downloaded and installed 4.5 on my bb. However, when I downloaded the 4.5 Desktop manager, it did not recognize Outlook as an option for synch. I reinstalled the 4.2.2 that came with my BB. It recognizes Outlook, but nothing appears on my desktop calendar. The calendar shows "all day events" in bold, but no text is in the day mode. When I try to re-do it, Outlook tells me this is in conflict with another appointment. So it is there, just not visible. Also, I cannot delete them. Can anyone help me? I like the 4.5 format because of the new fonts, etc. and would not want to go back to the 4.22.
thanks,
Karen

Are you running Outlook 2000? Support for Outlook 2000 was removed from all versions of Desktop Manager 4.3 and higher. You'll need to stick with 4.2 SP2 if you use Outlook 2000.

Thanks for this thread.
The new OS works fine on my recent 4.2.
My advice is to upgrade with as virgin a 8310 as possible.

That's controlled by a light sensor near the notification led on the upper right corner. If it's bright enough in the room the lights won't come on. If it's dark, then they'll come on. You can cover it with your finger and see if the lights come on then.

Yes, browsing is absolutely useless. Makes me wish I had my iPhone back.
Everything else seems ok. I noticed the voice directions in AT&T Navigator is not as loud

Look for the 4.4.0.46 or higher. That will fix the Browser problem and it is much more stable on my 8310 curve.
- had the same problems and also Nav4all works really well with the higher # OS

Does the 4.4.0.46 (or higher) solve the text entry problem in the browser? Any new problems with the 46+ that weren't seen with the 37 (on AT&T)?

Went ahead and upgraded my AT&T 8310 (being used on TMO) today. I had hoped a couple of weeks ago to wait for official AT&T version but who knows now when that will come out. (Likely tomorrow since I upgraded today - LOL.)
So far so good. Very impressed with the new OS so far. No glitches yet discovered. I like the look of it -- somewhat "crisper" and "cleaner". (Not sure how else to describe it.) Email especially and very happy with HTML email whether pics actually download or not -- at least I can read the darn things now without scrolling through so many screens of HTML code.

Yes you could write text and use the tabs also.
What I find is if you check spelling you need to put the (I) back on the black box that moves when you type. Click the track ball and you could move out of the reply box.
Other then that every thing is working.
GPS works no problem opera mini, yahoo messenger. I use Nav4all since BB and Google maps are not working. There is a work around for it if you need it.

e-mail error -
07-07-2008, 11:06 AM
I download my first ever upgrade last night. It was the V4.5.0.37 and everything works great. I love having the video cam. But for some reason when i try to compose a e-mail it say "No message services configured" now i am getting all of my e-mails and text mess in my inbox just fine. I just can't send any emails. It will let me write them and save the draft but thats it. Does anyone have any ideas.
Thanks for all that everyone does. This place is a life saver.

after a couple of days of use on my 8310....the standby button stop working after some presses (have to restart the phone to fix it)...also the enhanced browser features of this new OS (mouse cursor that changes to text cursor in text boxes and auto highlights buttons) stop working also...i have to exit the browser and reload a new page to get it to work right.
i like the video feature, it's cool. but you can tell this OS would work much better on faster hardware (i.e. the bold).
