That's the way the address book looks in 4.5. The space is for a company name if you have it entered. Unfortunatly, you can't change it, either.

The new address book features two lines for each address... the 2nd line being the company. If you have none entered, it will remain blank.

It's a new way of displaying them. The second line would show their company. It used to show the company after a comma next to the name. I don't like that it forces this on us instead of offering it as an option as I personally like seeing more names on the screen at once.

I couldn't get the file from vodafone.de to install onto my computer, so I had to find a 4.5.0.46 on rapidshare and it works flawlessly. I think this is a beta version, but if I could get the vodafone app to work on my computer, I'd install it.

Ok, interesting new issue; the first night I did the upgrade, the videocamera worked fine, i recorded a test video, saved it, replayed it back, then deleted it.
Last night, I tried recording a video, and it appeared to record, but then i couldnt' save the video, nor could i play back what i recorded; it also didn't show any change in the file size as it was recording (consistently showed 0KB).
I have plenty of room on my memory card (at least another 1GB), so I know that space isn't the issue; I tried a battery pull, that didn't fix the issue either. My only other thought at the moment is that perhaps it has to do with the memory card having been formatted on 4.2; it's only a 4GB card, so reformatting it won't make a difference storage-wise, but I'm going to try wiping the card (after backing it up of course) and re-formatting it with 4.5 just to see if it makes any difference. I'm in the process of cutting and pasting all 3GB of data to my HDD right now, once that's completed I'll reformat and let you know if it makes a difference.

This OS will load on any carrier's 8310 model as long the user follows the instructions below exactly as written.
Filename: 8310M_PBr4[1].5.0_rel52_PL2.7.0.55_A4.5.0.37
Package Version: 4.5.0.52
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.5.0.37
Software Platform: 2.7.0.55
File name: 8310M_PBr4[1].5.0_rel52_PL2.7.0.55_A4.5.0.37
File size:80 MB
Hilfe & Support / BlackBerry / BlackBerry-Handhelds / BlackBerry Curve 8310 vodafone.de
Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8310:
1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed.
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.
To find previous versions of the OS for this device, click
HERE
*Note: During Beta testing of this OS on TMobile devices many sim cards were "fried" and had to be replaced and UMA didn't work. Load on TMo devices at your own risk.
Also, on all devices it's a good idea to make a backup of your media card before loading OS 4.5. Constant reboots can occur when using media cards formatted in OS 4.2 or 4.3 in OS 4.5. Then reformat the media card in OS 4.5 and restore your data.
*Note: While in Application Loader be sure and check the boxes to add Documents To Go to your device. Failure to install Documents To Go will cause java errors in some 3rd party apps.
|
Hey JS,
Can I ask a dumb question..?
I can't install the OS to my pc BEFORE having the latest DM 4.5 installed, right..?

OK, just completed upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.5.037. No problems and everything's good...just need to do an enterprise activation again. But that (hopefully) shouldn't be a problem.
Device feels great...nice, smooth fonts..waay cool video cam, voice recorder, everything's real snazzy...eOffice, Nav4All...working great...
Just one thing though...
Is it just me, or does my device seem to navigate a little faster than it used to when browsing..???

Ok, further update... after a long process of removing everything from my media-card, my videocamera still will not save vids, even with NOTHING else on the 4.5 OS-reformatted media card (showing 3.7GB of space available). Anybody have any thoughts?

@RaQHoliday:
Hi, you setup the camera to save on the media card? and/or maybe you have little internal memory free space.
One friend has this problem, the camera didn't record videos. It was due to little free memory.

No promt to upgrade -
07-11-2008, 02:03 PM
I was wondering if someone could help me. I made sure to follow the steps EXACTLY and when i plugged in my blackberry after running and deleting the vendor file, the media manager didn't prompt me to upgrade. Any ideas on how to get it to do so?

I noticed there is now an option for 'Wireless Upgrade'. Does that mean it will soon have WiFi, or is that just a feature to upgrade software OTA?

Its light sensitive with a light sensor near the LED. Put your finger over the LED and the keyboard and trackball hould light up. If not, reboot and try again.

you need to get a new service book from your carrier. They may not have released it just yet, though. I have it working with AT&T

No. You can install this version if you have an 8310 from AT&T or any carrier. You don't have to wait until your carrier releases it.

Go back to the blackberry site and download desktop manager 4.5 with media manager. There are 2 versions to download, one with and one without.

I fixed the video recording problem. I had to reformat the Media Card and then it started working.
But I found another problem when i tried installing ringtones. I did the thing to gain more memory. Previously, I added the ringtones using 4.2 Desktop Manager and now I've updated to 4.5 so I dont know if I'm doing it wrong or if it isn't working. I have about 10 ringtones on the phone already and they are saved to the Device Memory. When I tried to drag them into the Ringtones folder in Device Memory, it kept saying "not enough memory in device".
But I deleted like 4 pictures and a couple ringtones and it kept saying that. So what is the problem?

I followed the steps to a Tee, first error message was no enough room on my BB to install my selection. So i unchecked all the languages i didnt need, and a few other things like BB messenger i dont use. Got past that part, saw the warning about reactivating over wireless blah blah, and hit go.
I was told an error occured (in the DM window) click ok to abort, and it went back to the DM main menu. I had to battery pull and use manage connections to get the phone back. What went wrong?
