Will do, thanks, JSanders!!

PS: I was just wondering, mine is a beta while a "regular" version has been released by Vodaphone. Will this make a difference on my BB's performance?

Completely remove the LBS.ALX and the LBS .cods from the java folder. And install the older version. Remove the service book, reboot and it should work...

I even re-sent the service books from Att and BBMaps is still there. And fully functional.
Just follow the instructions in this thread and you should be in buisness. Make sure you READ THE ENTIRE THREAD!! There are a couple of methods on this thread that will work. But ONE IS EASIER than the other....http://www.blackberryforums.com/beta...-os-4-5-a.html

Default SIM Card during OS upgrade - 06-13-2008, 12:05 PM

Does the SIM card need to be in the phone when upgrading the OS to 4.5? Since it seems to take a while, I thought it would be good to put the sim card in another phone so I can receive calls during the upgrade.

No Sir, in fact I turn the radio off to make sure no calls come in while in the upgrade.

I also removed my VP's sim card and stuck it in a 8820 this AM while his went thru his 45 minute upgrade and PTT removal. Worked fine

While upgrading, I make it a habit to not even touch the device while it is hooked up the cable. Any interuption is not good!

^^Not a bad practice, there.

On the other hand, I have never removed the SIM for an upgrade. And lately, it seems, I have been upgrading about 1x week.

Anytime you Blackberry does anything irregular, a battery pull has been known to do wonders.

Yes I have never pulled the SIM either for an OS upgrade but my 2nd in command wanted me to update his OS to 4.5 this am and yet we get a heavy call volume from the employees so I knew he had to have a phone!

I did not like the way he looked at my 8820! He said if there were a camera on the 8820, I would never see it again! I told him to be patient as I will be buying two Bolds next month! The new os is only to wet your whistle!

Google maps works for me. At least the new version does. It also works with my GPS which the previous version didn't.

Here's my dilemma. The OS works great. No real hangups. But now I can't get my calendar to sync with outlook 07. I've cleared the databases. And tried to resync. I've deleted the intellisync folder, and tried and no dice. The DM is the earlier version. That worked on the other betas. But not this official for me. So far my addy book, tasks, and noted will sync, but no calendar. Really strange. Any more suggestions?

Default Ugrade on AT&T - 06-13-2008, 02:52 PM

If I ugrade the Vodafone version and I am on AT&T, do I lose anything? For example, MediaNet? Do I have to resend service books or anything like that?

If you didn't have bes running through desktop manager at the time of the upgrade then yes you will have to re-activate it.

No, you lose nothing., even MediaNet.

You might need to resend Service Books, I don't recall needing to do so after an OS upgrade, but you may.

Is anyone else having the issue with the browser cutting off half of the text input boxes? It also won't let me click "see larger image" in google image search.

Yes, you must not have read through this whole thread. Doing so will alert you to potential bugs and glitches in this release.

Did you load the DocumentsToGo application? If you didn't, you must do so for JiveTalk and a few other third party applications to work.

An OS upgrade normally (always has for me) restored all my messages and BBM contacts. If you did a backup (very wise) before upgrading, do a Restore, Advanced.

Default Freeing up memory - 06-13-2008, 05:27 PM

I just loaded the 4.5 OS and then noticed that I have just under 7,000,000 Bytes of free memory.

I did a search on freeing up memory and saw John Clark's excellent post on freeing up memory during an install of an OS.

Unfortunately, I just installed the OS, so I would rather not do it again.

What would be the best way to delete PTT and other memory-hogging apps without having to re-load the OS?

Using Johns top-notch tips are the only way... delete the cod files in the java folder. Works great. It's a pain with rewards

Yes, because you didn't load the Docs2Go modules? That is the error and fix other users all over are reporting.

Don't know why, Docs2Go not being loaded is the reason, though.
