I have and iPod 40GB 4G, so have been used to having digital music on the go for a while now, I can detect some difference in the sound, cymbals and airy strings sound more swishy than on the iPod (which sounds swishy also). I encode all my mp3's at 320kb/s and have no problems playing them.
I have a tape adaptor to be able to use the stereo in my truck to listen to music whilst on the move, and the quality from the BB as the sam as, if not better than convential FM radio... what more could you want, after all it is a "phone"...

Can anyone help with this.
Usually I only listen to albums by one artist eg Depeche Mode's Playing the Angel but once in a blue moon I would like to listen to some of the compilations i have.
The problem i have is that when i put a compilation album on my media card then it gets all spread out in the artists section of media player.
Thus when i open my music player I usually choose to view by Artist and then scroll down to the album by that artist i would like to listen to. However this view will give me all my normal artists list but in there will be all the artists off the compliation album.
I know I can decide to view music by album and thus get to listen to the full album that way.
My question [after all that pre-amble] is to ask if there is any way of tidying the artists list up so that these guys off the compilation albums come up as one eg in the best ever 70's album Elton John and David Bowie and the 20 other contributors would show as the artist being the 70's best ever album rather than mixing in 20 odd names in my usual list?
hope someone can make sense of that.

It is just as good as the music you upload to it.
I just figured out today that when I connect my monster cable or 3.5 imput jack to my car and truck I can listen to the music over my speakers. But when a call comes in my ringtone will go over speakers and when I answer the phone the person on the line is also on my speakers and the phone goes into handsfree mode. This is an awesome blue tooth replacement and sounds just as good.

The only way I think You can do this is by editing the music file in Your computer before You transfer it to Your phone. Just change the Album field to whatever You want it to be ie.: "the best ever 70's album Elton John and David Bowie". So when You look for this Artist this songs will be organized in the same album.
Get it? I hope I made any sense to You.

I love my Curve as an MP3 Player!
And yeah, I only figured that out after over 11++ months of use--yeah, when I first used the wired headset that came with the box.

The BlackBerry Curve WILL play m4a (MP4/AAC) files, as long as they're songs you've ripped from your own CD's. It plays them just fine. What the BlackBerry won't do, is play songs you've purchased from the iTunes store - files that have DRM (Digital Rights Management) encoded into them.
Never make someone a priority when you are only an option to them.

The BlackBerry will also support Cover Art that is embedded into the song file. Downloaded cover art won't transfer over.
Fortunately in iTunes, there's a way to do cover art an album at a time.
Just go to images.google.com and find your album cover and download it. Open up iTunes, and highlight all the songs in a given album. Go into the cover art field, and add the cover art you downloaded. Save, and that will embed the cover art into each song file. Then, when you copy them over to your BB Media Card, the cover art will show up on your Berry.
It's a little more work, sure... but it works well in the end.

using the BB as an mp3 player is nice, very nice, only if the battery lasted as long as an actual Mp3 player :(

i think it's great, i have an 8 gig card in and i still don't have it filled, and now that u can create playlists from the device, it's everything i need. i'm especially happy that its not super id3 dependent. i don't use id3 tags and i hate that the formatting gets all messed up on certain devices and that songs are hard to find without them.
also, stereo bt (though u lose a bit of quality, but it don't find it to be that noticable). ipods and iphone still don't have this! for me it's the prefect device (also ensures i never forget my bb)
Two months ago, I saw a provocative movie on cable TV. It was called The Net, with that girl from the bus.

sorted my compilation album issue out - with a bit of effort
take a song on a 70's comp
song - rocket man
artist - elton john
album - best of 70'S
now to make them all show up under the one album in the artists category rather than 18 artists i did the following
song - elton john rocket man
artist best of 70's
album best of 70's.
nicely organised music section

Wirelessly posted
I just bought a Belkin fm transmitter for Ł20 which plugs into the audio slot on my curve. The sound going to the car stereo (tuned to the fm transmission) is pretty good.

You mean cover art that iTunes automatically gets will not transfer over to the BB? Well, that sucks.

when you get an album in itunes it usually puts the artwork into the bottom right corner.
If you click on that image and then right click and copy you can then open a doc folder and past a bmp image into it.
i usually paste the bmp image into the itunes artwork folder and then edit the bmp just to change the name and the file to a jpg.
then i go back into itunes music and highlight all the tracks on the album and click get info. from there i click on the artwork box and select the newly renamed jpg version of the bmp file i copy and pasted.
then i drag and drop from the windows folder for that album onto my memory card and hey presto the artwork appears in my curve media player.

Does anybody know if there is a way to get the BB mp3 player to stop playing automatically when I unplug the headphone jack? My 1g Nano would automatically pause when I unplugged the headphones, and I get annoyed when my BB decides to just start playing again after I hit pause/stop.

I have used my Curve as an MP3 player since I first got one that could accept a media card. It works just fine. It plays regular MP3's, and it plays iTunes aac files also with no problem.
If you have any protected aac files, sich as those purchased from the iTunes store, you'll have to burn them to CD, and re-rip them into iTunes to beat the DRM protection - so it'll play on your berry. It's a little more work, but it WILL work.
