it asked me if I want to turn on mass storage mode? what is that? do i? lol

Yes, you do.

Using Mass Storage Mode is the easiest way to transfer files from PC to BB... it "makes" the Media Card an extra removable drive on your PC when you have the BB plugged into USB.
