Default Blackberry automatic memory cleanup - 06-19-2008, 02:58 PM

Greetings all,

Do the Curves or Blackberry in general have some sort of automatic memory cleanup routine built in?

The reason I ask, just yesterday my 8310 showed ~25M available per the "status" page. This morning it reported 31M. I did nothing, I know of, to clear memory. I also make it a habit to not keep apps running in background.

I am not complaining.... Only curious. It would be sweet if such a routine does exist.

Thanks in advance,

I don't think so. You definitely did something to free up the memory whether you realize it or not.

31mb free??! I have 20 with almost nothing on the phone at all yet. I just got this one three days ago. How is that even possible? Mine will sometimes get down to 16mb then be back at 20mb by morning...there is a built in memory cleaner in the device though.

yes. your email settings will automatically delete messages once they reach a certain age, from 15 days to never. default is set to 30 days.

My guess is he had 2.5MB and it bumped up to 3.1MB (not 25MB bumping to 31MB.)

Current
File Free: 30938486 Bytes

I think it was an email attachment that was using up the mem. Thanks for the suggestions.

Had to deleted some serious applications to get 30mb free.

Anyway a memory freeing programs sounds like a great program for someone to write. A single click on an icon and all extra programs close and the device reboots!

With the Bold we are going to need this less!

Wirelessly posted

The day after I got my curve I found the sticky in these forums for optimizing memory. After I performed the steps in that sticky, I ended up with close to 32m free. The only third party apps I have are googlemaps, bbfaq, and bbwap.

This forum is extremely informative and helpful. Keep up the great work!
