ok i have had my "unlocked" curve for over 7 months.. its my 2nd to be exact. so i had quite a lot of mails & text's saved. then today it just started to randomly delete all of my text's ad emails? has this happened to anybody else and how can i stop this

It's not random. It gets low on memory and starts deleting from oldest to newest. I'm guessing you have very little memory free. You can look in Options >Status and post the number next to "file free."

the only thing i have done different is installed goggle maps and i think thats whats killing me

You have almost 0 memory free. It's a LOT more than Google Maps. You should have at least 15-20MB free and more if you follow the instructions above.

Do you have a media card? Also, remove the battery and reinsert and see what your file free jumps to.

In general, low memory is killing you. Get it up over 12-15MB by follwing the links' advice John gave you. It works .

You're not listening very well. Google Maps is less than 1Mb in size. It may have some cached data, as well. You likely rebooted the device after removing Google Maps. That reboot is what gained you most of that memory back. With 4.7 MB free you will run into this problem again. PLEASE follow the instructions above as your device is still VERY low on memory.

Also, you never answered the question about the media card? Do you have one? If you're saving pictures to the device memory that is also a big problem.

This is the most commonly asked question on this forum. It's why I spent some time creating the post that I linked as well as the one JSanders wrote. There is also information at Blackberryfaq.com. If you were to have done a google search on text messages disappearing on a Blackberry you'd find TONS of hits that state that memory is a major issue on the BB's. If you look at the stats (number of views and posts) on the thread about optimizing your BB's memory you'll see how popular it is for this very reason.

You need a Media Card, and move all your personal photos to it.

It is ashame that one uses his device for 7 months, looses all of his messages and text and THEN finds this place for help on fixing it!

I say a BBForums sticker with the site URL on every Blackberry box who be in order! At the least RIM should have some kind of warning in the set up wizzard about letting memory fall below a certin level.

Definitely get a media card, and if you have ringtones on your BB that you loaded yourself, move those onto the MC along with the pictures.
