I have AT&T 8310 with GPS. In the applications folder is TeleNav. I installed it, was prompted for various info, talked to about 30 day trial, $10 month fee, etc. - all the while thinking I was installing a navigation program that would do route guidence with voice prompts, rerouting, etc. I ended up with just AT&T Maps - which has a nice interface, allows for the finding of restaurants, etc. But it does not do route guidence with voice prompts, rerouting, etc.

On the about screen within AT&T Maps there is an option to upgrade to "GPS Navigator", which claims provide route guidence with voice prompts, rerouting, etc. And a 30 trial program... But I have to call a phone number or see my AT&T store to get it.

I am confused... I fell I have had my time wasted so far... seems this should be simpler... I am annoyed... Will getting "GPS Navigator" get me guidence with voice prompts, rerouting, etc.?

Yes, AT&T has their own version of TeleNav, which is AT&T navigator, that will give you what you are looking for.

I do not know of a free map application which does what you want. Telenav, a.k.a. ATT Navigator is the only one and it is $10 a month. Best option IMHO is to get one of the GPS stand alone devices that does what you want plus has much more map and POI data. Would pay for itself in a year or so.

Get Telenav directly from Telenav. From what I've seen it seems that people that get it via at&t seem to have more problems (for whatever reason).

I have AT&T Navigator and a beta of the next version of Garmin (very Nuvi-like) and a beta of the next version of MapQuest - any of which would suit you - but you should also check out the routing functions in Live Search and *all* the widgets in the library for Where
