then you're about to be let down. the bb is a business phone with some consumer oriented application and features integrated.

then you're really gonna be let down. if you're looking for a gaming handheld, you're on the wrong device. if you're looking for free stuff, you're on the wrong device. the OS's are locked down to satisfy corporate security and network managers to ensure stability, reliability, and security. there is little reward or market for roms, hacks, and devs aside from productivity oriented apps.

and since you're a self-proclaimed noob, telling you to develop your own apps would probably go over like a lead balloon.

To answer your question about the OS, that stands for operating system, like windows xp or mac's OSX, it's just people referring to the Blackberry operating system and what version is out or which they are using. OS 4.5 is out in beta format for some devices but not all and brings about some nice changes to the blackberry loyal here, most notably is html e-mail support. As for downloads and games, Oakie pretty much correct, open you browser on your bb and go to mobile.blackberry.com, that will give you some down loadable apps like mobile facebook, some news feed apps as well as new themes and ringtones, etc... enjoy your new toy..
