Default Pop3 Trouble

Please Login to Remove!

So I've been trying to set up one of my higher ups Blackberry's and I am having trouble with the email. It was working until we upgraded our email. The problem is that the incoming and outgoing servers have different addresses. Under the old system they had the same address. When I am trying to set up the email account there is no place to do different server names, only one. Is there some sort of advanced setting I can get to or something, because if I can't fix this my associate is out of luck. Thanks for any help!

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

When you create the email account on BIS leave the password blank and you shold get the options you need.

Firstly, I know this is going to sound bad, but what is BIS. I left the password blank on the phone while setting it up and I got to a screen that had most the information I needed to enter, but no outgoing and incoming mail servers. Only email server.

That's the incoming pop3 (or imap) server address.
You only need to specify the incoming mail server. Outgoing mail is handled by the RIM network and their servers.

If that were the case, then why wouldn't the email account work. I've set it up with just the incoming server before, and once we changed to having a different incoming and outgoing it stopped working. Since then I have also just tried to set it up with just the incoming server name. No dice. Any suggestions?

Is your POP3 mail server accessible over the public Internet?
Perhaps there's some type of security set up that is disallowing BIS from being able to make a connection to it.

What kind of POP3 email server are you using? Can you provide any additional details related to your network topology?

It's difficult to troubleshoot without knowing how you have things set up over there.

It is accessible through public internet. I am pretty sure that it is just a standard Pop3. I can get it to work easily on an iphone, and a treo, but not the blackberry.

Might also need a different port assignment.

Have you tried resending the service books from BIS and then puling the battery on the device for about 30 seconds? That might take care of the problem.
