Default Bb 8320 Curve Problem - 07-06-2008, 10:49 AM

Hello everyone. I just got the BB 8320 Curve and it keeps going off after like 10 seconds of putting it on. I switched SIM CARDS and it shows "VERIFYING SECURITY SOFTWARE........SECURITY SOFTWARE PASSED" and goes off after this. Wouldn't even allow me to go to options or edit anything before going off. Can anyone please tell me what to do cos i love this phone so much even without using it at all.

Welcome to BBF.

If you 'just' got it I'd say return it. Something is wrong with it.

If you can't return it, I'd say try wiping it with JL_Cmder and see if you can reload the OS.

I've been running the .46 version now for a week without any significant issues. I don't use UMA or WiFi though, I can't comment on that. The only bug I've come across is the voice-mail indicator doesn't seem to work quite right. I'm on T-Mo.

on my phone however i'm on bes and have upgraded the servers to 4.1.5 and dont get to see corporate email in html format.

any ideas on any of these appreciated.

Thanks

AFAIK, you need 4.1.6 on your BES for HTML email. Not sure about your other issues though.

Frying is probably a bad description. My guess is the SIM card gets locked (there are 3 different methods for this). You can also lose service if the MSISDN is set incorrectly. I've been running .37 for three days with no incident (except for UMA not working). I now have an updated firmware loaded and UMA works (although it doesn't seem to like the Tmo MyFaves app).

I doubt these cards are overheating or shorting out. If that is the case, then loading beta software is probably the least of your worries ;)

So curvey...

i upgraded to T-Mobile BlackBerry 8320's to from v4.2.2.184 to 4.5.0.37-- both devices would reboot as soon as the device went idle (backlight shut off) if a microSD card was inserted. if the card was formatted using the Media Card menu of the phone it should stop, until content was re-added to the card. the issue was resolved by formatting the card from a PC first (right-click on the removeable drive in My Computer and select format) and once content was added back to the card the Curve stopped rebooting when idle.

I am just wondering if the problem everyone is having with SIM's going bad is based on the Tmo hardware, or the fact that its on the TMo network. Reason I ask is I have a Tmo 8320 which is unlocked, and I am using it on Rogers in Canada. I wanted to upgrade to 4.5 but am wondering if the same issues will apply?

I thought the latest version is: Latest OS: 8320 4.5.0.52/4.5.0.37

What version are you using that has this issue fixed and UMA working?

Thanks

While it is packaged as "52", the actually OS is only "37" in that one...there is a 42 I think and a 46. I'm running 46... found a link for it somewhere, it had all three handsets (83xx) and the OS for it for GSM models.

I've also had UMA on now for a few days, no issues with SIM so far.

Only problem I have with UMA is that I like to use a bluetooth headset. UMA+Bluetooth seem to = interference....the call quality is horrid. (It's linking to my via 802.11G to my Actiontec router from my 50/20 FiOS connection)

Can't if it is an app that needs to do data retrieval...denied by IT policy from corporate BES. Guess I could do their "web" version or something if I really wanted.

I can sneak some apps onto my phone by wiping, installing then BES-activating, but so far a few don't work after -- BBAlerts, Gmail, Gmaps 2.2 (old one worked), E*Trade Pro...while some others work fine - Zagat2Go, MiniOpera, etc.

Most of the google apps now bomb with a "the apps access to the persistant store is denied by policy"

This what you need to do to get HTML to work.

Simply in ServerConfig table set RichContentEnabled and RichContentInlineEnabled values to 1. Restart BES services.

Cool 4.5 on TMO 8320 on Rogers - 07-09-2008, 02:41 PM

If I install this 4.5.0.52 on my TMO 8320 running on the Rogers network will there be a chance of frying the SIM? Anyone else running a TMO 8320 on Rogers? BTW I am currently running the 4.2.2.184 software.

^^^ I'm in the same boat as you. I think I will wait until a newer firmware is released to play it safe. I use the wifi so I don't want to fry anything at all.

Like tim3, I am wondering what the next stable OS is which works on the T-Mobile Curve with UMA. I too fried my SIM chip and need to downgrade to something that will work.

Thanks.

i stayed away from .37 because of sim card danger. but im with tmobile, which are the cards getting fried.
i went from .184 to .46 and had no issues at all
then just recently upgraded to .52 and no issues
.37 was the only version that had sim card troubles. you should be a ok
and uma works like a charm since .44 for me

I'm running 4.5 release 75 on the Rogers network. All is working well, incl. WIFI. No problems to report at this time. I'm also connected to my BES in the office running the latest version -- much, much better. I just miss my old custom theme (I haven't tried it yet).
My 8320 is silver and unbranded. I assume it's T-Mo.

isn't O/S posted on the first page 4.5.0.52? sometimes I get confused with software package and application package. So this package wont fry Rogers SIM card in a Tmo branded berry?

under the bes admin corner i found the fix needed. thanks for your help, much appreciated.

all in well everything is working great, both phones operating correctly and html email everywhere.

one thing i just noticed today as i received a wmv and opened it. sound played video didnt. i'm guessing some kind of codec issue. i was however very please with mobile youtube. very nice.

the issue on my wife's on the download thing i dont know, i suspect service book options. i guess i may have it because my bes is 4.1.5 and i resent service books. on hers i tried to register and it didnt come up. only time will tell.

i dont think is too long until the os comes out. centercode had a beta that i signed up for and didnt get in, for tMO and ATT for smartphones. i'm speculating that it was related to the BB os (i may be wishfully thinking).

Thanks

I'm tempted to try it, but I will hold back on the urge. I don't want to mess up my phone.
