This version will work with BIS 2.5 and HTML email correct. I'm going to do this upgrade if it works as the other 4.5 release for the 8320

have you clicked on the application loader once you have the desktop manager open? Clicking the application loader is what should promot you I think.

I have at least one bug: the red light continues to blink when there are no unread messages/missed calls. A battery pull fixes this but I'm not going to be pulling my battery every time this happens. Oh well, I can live with it since I've fallen in love with HTML email and remote searches through my BES.

Default Upgrade 4.5 problem - 07-10-2008, 05:40 PM

To install this software on any 8300:

1. Download and install the latest Desktop Manager.
2. Download and install the OS packaged linked above.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Connect BB, open Desktop Manager and you should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.
I followed the directions. Got to step 4 when I connect to BB and open Desktop Manager nothing happens. I clicked on AppLoader and it is still using 4.2 not 4.5 so doesn't upgrade. I went to Help in the Desktop Manager, then pulled up about and under Device Software I can see both the version 4.2.2.170 and 4.5.0.37. Did I do something wrong?

Thanks.

auntpenn, I know u said u were at step 4 with nothing going on but are you sure you deleted the vendor.xml file? You are doing this from a windows machine right?

maybe someone else can lend some insight on your issue as well.

I have noticed a glitch, not sure if it's my service or the OS but since the install of this latest OS, sending mms messages I get either stuck in the sending position or they dont get sent at all>pull battrey and resend items with a red X and they go through. Annoying but I'm not ditching the OS!

Love having video and voicenotes, guud times!

Thanks for the response. Yes - I triple checked and have deleted the vendor.xml file. I guess I'll just wait a while and try again.

what version of the desktop manager are you using? Maybe that has something to do with it too?

I'm of no help here, I'm afraid!

Default step 4 - no prompt to upgrade - 07-12-2008, 06:34 PM

I followed steps 1-4 (installing the file installed a new Vendor.xml dated 6.8.2008 in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader), but there was no prompt to upgrade when Desktop Manager loaded. I tried running Application Loader, but no OS upgrade option there, either.

Installation appeared to run without a hitch, even prompting me to run Desktop Manager

did I miss anything?

I was in the middle of installing the new 4.5 OS. I received an Error 507. I tried to restart the upgrade, now Desktop Manager will not connect to my device. I click on App loader, then update Applications. A window pops up showing my Pin and asks for a password. I have tried to leave it blank. It still will not connect to my device.
Now I am getting error 561

Where do I go from here?

I've recently installed the upgrade, however I have noticed from time to time it will switch to lower case gprs. I have full covereage in the area and have not lost coverage due to being in an elevator or anything like that. The only way to resolve this is, is the old battery pull.

Figured it out!!!! When you click on the download tab you will be prompted to run file or save it. If you save it then you will have to open it when it's finished. Once you open/or run the file it will extract the info needed for the DM to recognize it! Seems silly after figuring it out but I am sure you guys were just making sure to follow the steps exactly as written just as i was trying not to make a mistake.

Upgraded 8300 to 4.5.5

First time error 507

Re-started and loaded all apps again, works perfectly.

Not hard if you follow all the instructions.

Default Rogers Official release - 07-13-2008, 12:45 PM

How stable is this release? I'm really anxious to use the new features such as the video camera and Documents to Go but I'm relunctant to load software from another vendor as my blackberry is unfortunately my lifeline and i canot afford to lose the use of it. Does anyone know or have an idea when Rogers is going to officially release this version?

Rogers is not going to release it as they will launch the bold is what some of the reps have told me. Having said that they are only as good as what their store managers educate them. I am like you reluctant as my blackberry is my life. I almost wish that I could give it to someone to do for me and GURANTEE it works but that is not possible.

I've been told if it is not broken don't fix it.....I am really anxious though to use video on my device....anyone else in Canada done this upgrade...share your experience....

I have a Curve 8300, unlocked for use on Tmobile.
Do I have to worry about this one damaging my SIM like a Tmobile account?
And if so, are there any workarounds?

Welcome to the BBForums.

I don't recall seeing any 8300 models which were SIM fried. Most, if not almost all, of those were 8320 models.

I'm hoping that my Sim doesn't fry, because I do have an 8300 Curve, but I do have a Tmobile SIM card. Does that make a diff?

Default software update and Verizon - 07-15-2008, 12:59 AM

When I go to verizon's software update page, it has Software v4.3. Does this mean I should wait until they update. I don't know if anybody has Verizon service, and has gotten the update 4.5. to work.

ratflyer, THIS is not the OS for the 8330.

This is for the 8300 as it states in the first post.

Default No prompt to upgrade - 07-15-2008, 11:40 AM

[quote=iLukeBerry;1001644]4.5 has been release for 8300

...

  1. I am running Running Desktop Manager 4.3
  2. downloaded and saved file
  3. deleted Vendor.xml from Research in Motion\Apploader (actually moved it out of the directory just to be safe)
  4. Installation appeared to run without a hitch, even prompting me to run Desktop Manager
  5. Installing the file installed a new Vendor.xml dated 6.10.2008
  6. Connected BB, opened Desktop Manager, but there's no prompt to upgrade. DM "About" shows "Applications: 4.5.0.37" but it will not transfer to the BB
  7. In DM Application Loader, there is no box to add Documents To Go to the BB

a poster after my earlier message solved the "no prompt to upgrade" by saving & installing rather than just running, but I did a save and install

did I miss anything?

You have to delete the vendor.xml file AFTER installation of Desktop Manager AND OS. You even state that step 5 installed a new Vendor.xml dates 6.10.08. Delete that file again.

Default Fatal error during update - 07-15-2008, 03:31 PM

spoke too soon!

after the backup phase, the update terminated:

"A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again."

not very specific. any clues? too much application space? even after deleting some current applications on the update, Application Loader is showing 39,409K total application space

Default Change of theme - 07-16-2008, 01:54 AM

Is it possible to replace the icon menu with a list menu under 4.5? I found instructions elsewhere on how this could be achieved on earlier releases but the specified files mentioned do not seem to be present on my 4.5 install.

If it helps, I am using the Vodafone themes (including the white one that I found how to reinstate on a separate thread).
