Talking OS: 8300 4.5.0.52/4.5.0.37 (East Asia) - 07-05-2008, 12:52 PM

4.5 has been release for 8300

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.52(EastAsia) (Includes English)

Package Version: 4.5.0.52
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.37
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.55
* File name: 8300EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel52_PL2.7.0.55_A4.5.0.37_S tarHub.exe
* File size: 75.6MB

Download here.

To install this software on any 8300:

1. Download and install the latest Desktop Manager. Click here.
2. Download and install the OS packaged linked above.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Connect BB, open Desktop Manager and you should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

(Link to previous 4.2.2.194 OS Click Here.)

This particular version was known to damage sim cards on some TMobile devices requiring the sim to be replaced during beta testing. TMobile users load at your own risk.

*Note: Also, on all devices it's a good idea to make a backup of your media card before loading OS 4.5. Constant reboots can occur when using media cards formatted in OS 4.2 or 4.3 in OS 4.5. Then reformat the media card in OS 4.5 and restore your data.

*Note: While in Application Loader be sure and check to boxes to add Documents To Go to your device. Failure to install Documents To Go will cause java errors in some 3rd party apps.

Is the East Asia version the same as Sri Lanka? Is this safe for TMO users? Any advantages of installing this version, or is this still a beta. Thanks.

1. This is for the 8300 not the 8320.
2. Version is the same except for maybe included languages.
3. There is a note above for TMo users.
4. Since it's released by a carrier, it's not technically a beta anymore.

4.5.0.37 is 4.5.0.37 regardless of the carrier it's released by. The only differences are the languages they include for their countries.

(Dialog Sri Lanka doesn't have the 8300 so they don't have an OS for the 8300.)

i have installed it on my 8300 and it works great! :D

BTW i selected "BlackBerry 8300 (TM)" in that pulldown menu. NOT "BlackBerry Curve 8300 (TM)"

4.5 is really cool but i didn't like default font size in BB dimension Zen theme it was too big, so i changed it to size 8 and now it's perfect!

Default should I go back - 07-05-2008, 04:07 PM

If this version is application 4.5.0.37 and I am using application 4.5.0.42 (beta) am I going backwards or is the official release version more stable?

Thanks

To find the right answer one must know the right question

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

It can take 20-30 mins to reboot after loading the OS. Don't remove the battery. Just be patient.

Anyone having an issue with their jivetalk application working?

Mine will not open at all, it just keeps scrolling with the round green, red and yellow signals.

Great OS though, first bug I've noticed thus far.

John - I guess it's safe to assume the even though this is an official .37 release, it will still have the same MWI issue with T-Mobile? (i.e., official or not, .37 is still simply .37)?

to update: once i removed the battery and try again as i mentioned before. it took me 10mins then yes, you were right, it displayed the BB screen. Very smooth. although i had problem last nite connecting to the internet. today its working like a charm.

and i use it on tmobile-usa as well.

@corrado -

Using this version with T-Mobile on an 8300? Does the message waiting indicator work for you now? (I'm guessing no, since this is still .37, even though "official" now).

I haven't been able to find this anywhere in the FAQ but if I upgrade the OS, I'm assuming I will also need to re-install all my apps and info? Or will this simply upgrade my existing OS and keep my data and settings intact?

Everything will be backed up and restored. However, if there is any glitch during the load and the device has to be wiped and the OS loaded fresh, you will lose your 3rd party apps. I suggest following the instructions below before upgrading your OS:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...arty-apps.html

If the load goes ok, then there is no need for the backup. However, if something goes wrong or you need to wipe the device you can easily reload all the apps using this backup.

ecyoral,
Please stop posting in the incorrect threads. You have an 8700 and this thread is for the latest OS for the 8300. Please slow down and post in the correct forum.

I have successfully loaded 4.5 on my Australian 8300 running on Telstra. I notice that there are now two new icons in my menu; "Download Email Preview" and "Download Print to a Fax".

I assume the email function is for the new HTML viewer I have read about. I say assume because when I click that icon, it loads up a browser screen and tries to connect to something but fails every time with a timeout error. Is this a common issue? All other internet connections/bookmarks seem to load ok.

Also, aside from the Video Camera and Sound Recording, what are the major new functions under 4.5?

i loaded this last night. all is well. hopefully, this fixes my recurring task reminder problem. some background on that statement. some of my recurring task reminders were not alerting me.

the only problem i saw was that when i checked my pictures, for some reason it didn't show my device picture directory. after a reboot, i was able to see it.

Works like a charm. I;ve read that you also get Documents to go by just updating the firmware to 4.5. I cannot find it on my 8300. Is there a separate download for this?

All good for me so far. The only thing I did notice is that some of the newest themes I have downloaded don't like to stick around after a battery pull. It defaults to O2 Zen if it doesn't like the theme. It switches to the theme no problem, but it doesn't remember it when the phone turns back on.

Hey guys,

I bought a Curve 8300 from StarHub a year ago. I've downloaded the 4.5 updates from the official Berry website.

After the OS upgrade, I have notice something with when sending an SMS.
When I sent out SMS to the other party (they receive by using a Nokia or Sony phone). Every time they receive my SMS, it automatically saved to their GSM-SIM card. (??)

However, before I did the upgrade from 4.2 to 4.5, the SMS behavior was normal. My SMS does not saved directly into the recipient SIM card. So, I tried to compare the settings with my friend's Berry. Everything looks the same to me. (4.5 would slightly have more setting menus)

So, I was wondering if you guys have got the same SMS behaviour after successfully installing the 4.5 OS update??

Other than that, the OS upgrade is a very nice improvement to the Berry.

You cannot control where your recipient's SMS are saved. On there BlackBerry, there is a setting at Options > SMS > Leave Messages on SIM card which should be set: NO.

Yes, I've already made sure about this settings.
Restarted the phone and the SMS matter still exist to any phone other than a BlackBerry, whenever I sent an SMS out.

Should I re-install the latest OS again?

On your PC... in that exact location. Click on your PC on My Computer and follow navigate to that folder as directed to find the file.

You probably don't need to upgrade your Desktop Manager if you have 4.2, sp 2. If you want to move to DM ver 4.3, look here:
BlackBerry Desktop Manager Downloads - BlackBerryFAQ

Good luck, post back if you have questions.
