Default Trying to figure out what the Desktop Software does

Please Login to Remove!

I have just purchased a 8310 Curve on the Vodaphone network, which of course comes with software to link to a pc. I am finding this counter-intuitive, unlike the BlackBerry itself which is very user friendly. Haven't had to refer to the manual yet. Conversely, have read everything I can about desktop soft ware and can't even make out what its function/purpose is. To start with, as soon as I connect up the BB to the PC the Desktop Manager greys out, rendering all icons redundant. I want to be able to back up contact data and edit it on the PC. That's all!! But cannot find a way to even begin. Can anyone help? Thanks

Usually it turns grey while trying to recognize the BB and "turns white" again as soon as it found it. You might have to go to options->connection settings and try to find the BB by selecting USB and hitting detect.
That's all I ever had to do and now it works fine. Hth

Yep it sounds like your Blackberry in not being seen by the software or you had a problem with the software install.

When you plugged you device in did your computer know it was a Blackberry device?

Are plugging directly into your computer and not using a Hub?

Like the poster above said make sure that options are set to USB to locate your device.

The Desktop Manager is not the best thing in the world but you are going to need it!

Default Eureka

Ok Guys, that's great, all working. Now I understand the minimalist interface that is the Desktop Manager. Didn't realise up to the point that I connected that I could sync with MS Office Applications.

Bye
