Question Sprint 8330 Signal Problems

Please Login to Remove!

I have had my 8330 for about 4 weeks now and have experienced signal problems since receiving the phone. I first noticed the problem when I started dropping calls in areas where I normally don't have a problem. I am seeing significant signal fade in areas where I have not seen them previously. The signal strength often goes from -90 to -125 dBm, while standing in a stationary position. I have also compared signal strength to a Sprint Mogul and the 8330 always has 5 - 10 dBm less signal strength. Also when comparing the two, the 8330 will frequently drop to -130 dBm while the Mogul remains at a steady -90 dBm.

I feel like it might be an issue with this specific phone. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? This phone is on a corporate account, so I'm wondering if I should call support and get it replaced or possibly go to a different model.

If anyone has any helpful information or suggestions, please let me know.

First thing I would do is reprovision it. Go into Options -> Mobile Network -> Menu button -> Start Provisioning. Then a battery pull.

If that doesn't work, call Sprint and request a 'PRL Update'. Once they initiate that on the backend, you'll dial *2 to update the device.

If that doesn't work....I'd take it back.

I've reprovisioned and done a battery pull. I have not tried a PRL update, but will give it a try in the morning.

BTW, what does a PRL update do?

Thnx for the tips.

From what I've been told, it basically makes your device learn or re-learn where all the towers are. Especially good if a new tower has been installed and your device doesn't see it.
