Under security options>general settings I have something listed that says Secure GC Enabled. What is it?

You don't, don't worry about it, it causes no issues on the BB.

Nope... just that user had done it about 100x in the past few days all over the forum, when they belonged in the New Members area.

Google Chat? If I disable memory cleaning I no longer have the secure GC message and it seems like my 8310 is more responsive. Could be all in my head though.

LOL uhm, no... it does *NOT* stand for "google chat" (nice guess though.. but this is how these bb rumors get started)

see here:

BlackBerry Search Results

although this isnt exactly the whole story either. "secure gc enabled" will also be displayed with content protection turned off, if you have memory cleaning enabled, or the s/mime package installed... which incidentally will lock memory cleaning in the enabled position.

Interesting. Thanks, I wondered why I had that Service Book and I never got any here close to having Google Chat on my device. I was sort of skeptical of it being related to Google Chat, and didn't really care... it still won't hurt to leave the Service Book there.
