...I actually did start with the instructions in the first post of this thread. The first two links brought me to the same place (as expected) and the third brought me to a page that gave me this message "The page you have requested has been moved or no longer exists". After navigating thru the links on the page with the error message, I was able to get myself to the page the first two links brought me to entitled "Software Download for BlackBerry Support".
From this page I chose "BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.5" from the drop down menu and then chose to download "Desktop Manager 4.5.0 B16 English - With Media Manager" from the lists of downloads available. None said anything about "Device Software" or "Handheld Software". They were all Desktop Software downloads, USB and Modem Drivers downloads, or Device Manager downloads.
Once the download was complete, I rebooted my laptop, deleted the vendor.xml file, plugged in my BB, and opened up the Device Manager but I was not prompted to upgrade. My Desktop Manager now says I have version 4.5.0.15 installed and I'm still stuck.
Sorry to be a pain but can anyone be more specific to my next steps?

indeed the wifi is much improved, that I have noticed. Never had much of a problem with bluetooth though. anyhow, Im loving this new OS so far. Haven't had a dropped call when switching from EDGE to UMA or vice versa yet. Hopefully it won't happen ever.

The first link is not the same as the 3rd link. The first link will take you to the new OS downloading site. You'll see the drop down menu to select what model smartfone you have, which should be the 8320. After selecting that, you'll be able to click on the first download link for,
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.75 (Multilanguage).
After downloading the file, run the file. After doing that, Plug in your BB and run Desktop Manager.

Media Card -
07-24-2008, 02:48 PM
After playing with 4.5.0.52 for a week my phone suddenly developed a massive problem with the media card (didn't add anything, had about 900md's of music & photos from the 4.2 days), causing the phone to consistently restart (phone works fine without the media card). I have reformatted the card numerous times with no luck. I should state that I didn't use the Roxio Desktop Software to add the media, just simple drag & drop via itunes & iphoto to the Blackberry folders marked music & pictures respectively (BTW, this was never a problem in 4.2). Why it started to do it after a week I don't know. I could try and reload 4.5.0.52 to my device but that would reformat everything & make me go through the hassle of getting my phone reconnected to my corporate BES. I'm just hoping someone out there my have solved the issue. Thanks.

No need to be posting the same problem in multiple threads. I posted in the other thread. Can you narrow it down to either pictures OR music? Then narrow it down from there.

The uma/bluetooth issue being resolved is worth upgrading in itself. Its still hillarious to me that I could make calls over uma with my H500 but never with the H800 lol

The new software is great! Brand new TMO device updated to 4.5 w/BES - everything seems to be working well. The UMA feature is probably the coolest feature of them all. I love it!

Tmobile 8320 curve can't update os4.5 -
07-25-2008, 03:11 AM
Hello all !
I just received bb8320 from Tmobile. It has os4.2.2.180 platform 2.5.0.36 Tmobile. When I browse to install os4.5 orange uk as mentioned in this thread . My laptop vista display "error, no aditional application designed for your device was found" . Could you let me know what is happening with my brand new 8320 curve from Tmobile? 4.2 is the latest os from Tmobile so I don't need to update to 4.5. right?
Thanks

Hi, This is an official release yes? so who do i contact about help with it? I am with orange UK.
Since installation internet is "funny"..
download speeds are good, but intermittent. sometimes as soon as you click a link it says "A communication failure has occured. The server may be busy, please try again later. if the problem perissts contact your service provider." other times it simply fails to load pictures etc..
Sometimes its just as fast and efficient as it was before.. but rarely.
I have re-entered the orangeinternet apn
Any ideas? I found account of someone on here having this problem with the beta, but if this is an official release and from my carrier i expect it to work. or them to help me fix it

I highly doubt this is a phone issue. Did you delete the vendor.xml file? If not, then the DM is correct: there is no version of the BB OS available for your T-Mobile device since the OS is not from T-Mobile.
[Edit] Reading a bunch of posts up, it looks like you have deleted the vendor.xml file. Since this is a non-Tmobile OS and it's not working I doubt if T-Mobile will exchange your handset. I also doubt this is a handset problem anyway. Try going to a different version of the Desktop Manager. I'm using the version you can download from the T-Mobile website and I was able to load this OS onto my 8320 just fine.
T-Mobile Blackberry Software Website
[Edit #2] Also, if you have any other versions of the Blackberry OS loaded onto your PC make sure the vendor.xml file you are deleting is from the folder with the 4.5.0.52 version you want to load onto your device. Even better, uninstall the other versions and only leave the 4.5.0.52 loaded on your PC. Then run the DM and try to load it.

Click on the Application Loader and follow the steps. When you get to the part where you can check/uncheck stuff to install make sure it says Blackberry Core 4.5.

OK so I am on BlackBerry Curve 8320 #3 in a 3 week period. Cross your fingers everyone! I'm done trying to update the OS, I'm just going to focus on the original problem that got me on BlackBerry forums and that is to make it stop restarting compulsively! Wish us luck!

Yikes! "Unable to reconnect" error! -
07-25-2008, 01:36 PM
In the middle of the install I got an error saying "unable to reconnect" and my 8320 was showing no longer connected status even though I hadn't touched it. HELP!
Update: All is well that ends well and now that I got the update installed, it was worth it!

I'm not sure what you've done on the restarting problem, but there's a long list of of things to consider. There are other threads about this, but since you're on phone #3, I would look to:
- Router that you're using - Some, like my Verizon Fios supplied router just are not stable with the 8320. I added a linksys router because of it, but on the Fios router, sometimes the phone would reboot, sometimes the router would.
- SD card
- SIM card
- Third party applications that you've added

You know when you turn your phone off, then back on. Well, you might want to disable the SIM card password while doing the upgrade.
I had the fatal error message on the computer lcd.

Well I have upgraded my T Mobile 8320 to the 4.5 OS and everything worked great. I deleted unwanted .cod files for more room. I updated my cical to show my appointments on the today screen.
So far I love the email formatting. If there is bold or color font in the email you can see it. The all around format of the message is better if there is tons of cc's or to's you don't have to scroll down like before. It starts at the from display and then the message. HTML emails are very nice. Video Recorder is awesome. Everything is working great so far. Thanks to JC and everyone esle for all of the tips. This was a very easy upgrade and very worth the time. This will hold me over until the Bold comes out.

Which .COD files did you find you could safely delete to save space?

I deleted the themes that I didn't want. I deleted the Voice Activated Dialing. I then unchecked all the things I didn't want in the application loader like help, languages, brick breaker, all instant messengers except BB Messenger, password keeper, and a few more things. I used the JC's thread to optimize the BB. I think it's in his sig.
I have noticed a dramatic improvement in UMA Calls.

oh dear, well i just called orange UK to help with my problem.
Despite having never had this before, yet clearly since doing the 4.5 upgrade only having the connection failed balloon, slower connections and more picture time outs. I was told its just the nature of ota networking and probably a coincidence. and that the software isnt supported by orange.. which is wierd as it says on the RIM website this software is authorised for use by orange uk on my device?? hmmm. but apparently anything that is downloaded from anywhere but the orange.co.uk website is not supported. RIM should be a bit more careful with their wording it sounds, I like my html email so dont really want to downgrade, but had deliberately waited for an "orange" version so that i could get support. i did not wait long enough it seems :(
Also slightly dissapointed you can only recieve html and can't send it, can still only seem to write boring old black plain txt.

I dont know if this has been addressed or not, I did a search and came up short, so I'm guessing no - onto my question - I use MP3s as ringtones - not actual ringtones - and with my previosu OS version these MP3s used to ring for about 30seconds at most. Now with this new upgrade they won't stop playing! It is kind of un-nerving but I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem or a fix to this...
Documents to go is a perfect tool - I am still disappointed with the fact that they didn't integrate HTML into the push email system anyone have a remedy for getting Empower to work without upgrading to the pro edition?
Other than this issue - everything else seems to be workign great for T-mo...youtube is awesome and if I ever encounter any problems I just exit full screen and pop it back on or restart the browser. Video camera could be better but hey it works so I'm not complaining!
And for those that are having problems - there is a new Desktop Manager version out for download with this OS upgrade - version 4.5. Make sure you download and install this before you do any OS upgrades or you will run the risk of botching the install completly! (I would know it happened to me before I realized what happened)
Best of luck!

Now with this new upgrade they won't stop playing! It is kind of un-nerving but I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem or a fix to this...

I've always cut up the mp3 into a 30-second clip of the song to save on space. That might be something to try.

That is an option I may eventually have to consider :( - hoping I don't have to but yes, thanks for that tip

4.5.0.52 use updated: I just had another quick reboot during a phone call. Not the end of the world, but I thought I'd put that out there.
I did get to format my media card the other night using the new OS so that kind of rules out formatting the media card as an option (for me anyway).
Still, this OS is the best I've used on my phone.
[Edit] I should add the reboots have been quick (i.e., the phone shuts off then turns back on with a white screen for about 5 seconds then I'm back to the phone call screen showing disconnected) and have happened on both UMA and the regular EDGE network.
