No you're not going crazy, I think its the antializing (sp) attempting to smooth fronts etc differnetly to before, however yes, to start with you think you feel you're slightly drunk as everything looks a bit blurry. rest assured you soon get used to the new look and won't think twice about it. you have just become acustomed to how it used to look. I had actually forgotten about it myself, but remember thinking exactly the same. no one else seems to have commented?? so maybe we are the only ones effected or maybe everyone else is blind :D

Hey all,

I did the OS install a week or so ago and evrything went smoothly during the installation. it took about an hour. Well I just noticed something rather strange, When Im in my house Im always on UMA and everything works perfect. But when I leave my house somethin happens where UMA doesnt automatically swith back to EDGE or even GSM for that matter. It just says "Searching for Signal". I normally have to reset the phone to get the signal back. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have a 8320 and running 4.5.0.75

Look over in our Media Section for a thread of Hot Media Card deals, listing sellers that routine have good deals/sales. Ecost.com is one.
HorizonWirelessOnline.com - Horizon Wireless, The World’s Cellular Repair Center ß is another.

Actually, you have 4.5.0.52 release 75 running I would call it. OS's normally get referenced by application level (.52), not the release level (.75). BTW, check my blog for some good information.

I did notice one little ting with my phone though - when locked and idle for a little bit the screen takes about 1-2seconds to refresh and show messages, update the time and signal etc - I haven't noticed this happening when unlocked but I'm sure it would happen all the same - anyoen else having this issue?

And I'm still havign the MP3 as ringtone issue where they play forever during a text message or picture message - aside from clippign the file is there any alternative found?

Hi John. I may have goofed something. I sure hope you can help. Here is the scenario:
I upgraded to 4.5.0.52 last night while I was running the "Surreal" theme. The upgrade went perfect and I was up and running with no issues that anyone had complained about, (note: it loaded now with the default T-mobile theme though) and it also, had resolved my UMA/Bluetooth interference issue which was now running great. LIFE COULD NOT BE BETTER, right?!! Well, under themes I noticed the "Surreal" theme was still listed, but it would not give me a preview thumbnail- but all the others would. I moved on, and loaded some other themes including a couple of the new 4.5 themes. I went thru about 3 or 4 and settled on 1, then decided a 1/2 hour ago to change back to "Surreal". That's when I think I "Bricked" my unit!! (!OMG!). Right as it was seemingly done with the change over to the "Surreal" theme, I got the "WSOD" (White screen of death) with "reset" highlighted and above it saying: "App Error 523". When I choose reset, it just goes thru the reboot with the "hourglass" (The "Surreal" themes looking icon) then back to that same screen saying "App Error 523". It never loads!
What do I do from here? Can you save me man!!?? !!SOS!! !!SOS!! !!SOS!!

First try pulling the battery for 30 seconds.
If that doesn't do it, then you will probably have to wipe and reload your OS.

Default what if you're a MAC user and not PC? - 07-28-2008, 06:16 PM

what if you're a MAC user and not PC?

I ask this as you can't use the BB software on a mac and so is there a solution for this update?

Is it a phone update or a software update for the desktop integration with ur BB?

Thanks

I've got the opposite. I lose WiFi connectivity and it won't come back unless I reset or do a battery pull. I suspect there will need to be one more update for T-Mobile users to fix UMA/WiFI issues.

I upgraded to this and my unread message count is stuck on 1. I have checked the e-mail folders and the sms folder, and I have no new messages. Anybody got any ideas on what else to check? This is really staring to make me mad that I cannot clear this off.

TMO USA customer here. I just upgraded my shiny new BB. It wasn't a smooth experience... I had to restart the upgrade several times, but it did finally complete, whew!

Strange thing is that there were no IM apps after the upgrade. I downloaded them from Blackberry.com, except for the BB Messenger, which BB says isn't compatible with my version of the OS?? Weird...

Also, I like the new font etc., much more legible than the old one. One thing I don't like is the looks of the address book, it doesn't show enough information; this was definitely better in the old OS.

Overall, very happy, but was sweating when it would upgrade for a while

No, I checked that and made sure like 3 times. I dont understand why its doing this, sometimes it will switch backover and the rest of the time it will just say searching. Thanks anyways.

**NOTE: This linked ^^download site^^ intermittently goes dead (probably due to heavy download use), so it is not working when you try, please check again in 5-15 minutes. There is no need to post "link not working". Thanks!**

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8320:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed.
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 45 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device

To find the previous OS for this device... CLICK HERE.

Note: Preinstalled wallpapers and custom folder icons are not included in this release.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I go to either link above I can only find the download for the 4.2.2.184 not the 4.5

Anyone else having problems with memory leaks? And if so, what have you done? I've already ran through John Clarks memory optimization thread, but my Curve will still gradually drop from 19 mb to 12 over the course of a day :( thanks

Please let me know which version of the desktop manager you used. Also, did anyone download any of the other desktop software. IE, modem drivers or desktop software???

I want to be well informed before I do my upgrade.

Thanks,

Installed the OS on my tmo curve last night and worked fine until today. Phone froze up quite a few times and couldn't navigate anymore. Performing ctrl+alt+delete restarted the phone but would resume frozen. Once I pulled the battery it started working again. Also had the phone reboot on me twice while I was on it. Any advice?

Do you have a media card installed? Try removing the card and see what happens.

Still have the one unopened message icon even though I don't have any unread messages anywhere. I checked saved messages and there is nothing there. Any other ideas?

Did you try a "Mark Prior Opened?" Highlight a date and hit trackball and select "mark prior opened."

I'm feeling a bit adventurous today, so I'm taking the plunge on my two-week-old BlackBerry 8320. Before upgrading, I did two things with the media card: (1) Searched and destroyed all the .dat files and (2) Took it out of the BB. I also reverted a few things back to defaults (wallpapers, ringtones, etc.). Wish me luck!

Update (7/30/2008, 8:19 PM CDT)
The upgrade was successful. Vital stats:
  • Free Memory = 20.630 MB
  • No duplicate T-Zones icons
  • Getting uppercase "EDGE"
  • Google Maps (2.2.0) works with tower triangulation
  • Facebook does NOT work -- it is not on the applications list even though it is installed.

Update (7/31/2008, 11:11 AM CDT)
  • Successfully associated phone to University's wireless network (features 802.1x authentication!)
  • Reloaded Facebook app, and it works!
  • Can watch YouTube videos! (I rickrolled myself)
  • Memory usage holding relatively steady at 19-20 MB.
