Wow - if it wasn't for my dumb "connector specific error" I'd have never known about this new OS download. Thanks JS (and Garz)!!!

Downloading it now!

^^OK, does anyone have any idea why my installation keeps getting interrupted? I tried it for RUN and SAVE and they both won't install.
(BTW, I'm using Vista).

I've been holding out for an official release before I did anything to my 8320 running 4.2.2.180 on Tmobile.

I installed this update today, other than it taking so long to upgrade, programs seem to work fine. I did have to re-run a few setup things for certain programs (like re-accepting the google maps agreement), and also re-entering the WAP.VOICESTREAM.COM setting in the TCP settings in Network. other than that everything seems to be running smoothly on both UMA and EDGE. Nice upgrade!

JS,

Do you happen to know why my installation keeps getting interrupted? The link is now working, and I also saved it onto my computer so I could try to install at any time. For some reason, I can't get past the installation stage. I was able to download 4.3 earlier today, but it kept giving me the connection setup error, so I looked it up and tried to download 4.2 SP2. That one was interrupted as well, which is when you suggested 4.5. Now 4.5 won't install either. It is driving me insane! I have no DM on the new laptop, which blows because I can't sync/backup my BB on it.

I am so ready to chuck this stupid laptop!

I've been running this version for the past 1+ week. It works very well and is very stable. I am running on T Mobile for those worried about their SIM cards.

I've had it around a week as well and Tmobile SIM is still alive.

Voicemail icon is back, UMA works and seems stable. I did a 35 minute test call while using a Motorola H700 bluetooth headset and the call held. Has a memory leak, but its slow and since it starts with much more free memory to begin with, there's less reason to keep checking memory.

With video recording, voice recording, html email, and a better browser, I'm pretty happy. Completely lost any lingering desire for an iphone.

PCGirl, have you tried loading the DM to your Vista laptop using Administrator rights on the laptop? The vista machine is whoosh over my head, I'm a refuznik, and have stuck with XP for now.

But I know many have had issues loading DM on vista machines.

I have vista as well. Try turning off any virus protecting software you have installed.

I'm not sure if I did the administrator thing. I'll try it.

JS - trust me, I wanted XP on this notebook but it was such a PITA to try and get it ordered before the license ran out and then my husband got a notebook at the same time and he didn't care that he got Vista so it would be weird to have one with XP and one with Vista since we bought all the software together and anyway we have other computers that use XP and we're keeping those around as well. But what's weird is that I was able to download DM on my husband's Vista notebook and my first Vista notebook (the one I'm on now is a replacement since the touchscreen on the other tablet sometimes stopped working).

dhollins - I was thinking that it could be an AV issue - I just converted from Norton (just learned it was a resource hog!) to AVG and I haven't been able to turn it off. Any AVG users out there??

^^Well, I tried the administrator thing and it didn't work. I tried both the multi-language and the english version. Now I'm trying to figure out how to turn off AVG without having to uninstall it.

Is it not as simple as right clicking the icon on the task bar and exiting AVG?

As a side note, I updated, it went fine. Things are working great (not gloating, PCgirl). Thanks all for the walkthroughs, etc.

Default Upgrade Question! - 07-17-2008, 02:04 AM

I am thinking of doing the upgrade to 4.5 Orange UK. I have a Tmo 8320. My question is what will be missing in my phone as far as Tmobile is concerned? Will I be able to Access T-zones for example? Or will my phone basically have all the Orange info in it? IM scared!!! What shall I expect in this upgrade?

I wish it were that simple! There is no right click to exit or disable. So, I decided to just go for it and unsinstall the AVG and it still didn't work. Grrrr.

I tried downloading from the site and also saving and downloading. I tried both the English version and the Multi-language. I just can't believe it is this difficult!

It's still there. Every once in a while the page says that the link has been removed. Don't know why.

Thanks Mr. Clark!!! That was quick!!! Any advice on backing stuff up such as 3rd party apps? I have read that 3rd party apps do not back up during the backup process...

Is the pre-loaded media included in this release. Like the background pictures, etc... Or is it exactly the same as the beta that I have had for over a week now.

Oh, and when I did the optimizing, I didn't delete vendor.xml because I only upgraded to the latest T-mo version and I had too much trouble trying to locate where the unwanted files (vendor themes, etc.) would be. I was able to delete the videos and wallpapers and that freed up enough memory for me. I was up at like 25MB before third party apps and now I hover around 21MB so I'm good to go. If I don't delete vendor.xml when upgrading to 4.5, will I get all the all the other vendor stuff, such as Orange? Then I will definitely have to find and delete them.

The new OS installs all new java folders for the new OS. Yes, you have to do the optimizing all over again with each new OS.

Oh, OK. I almost had a heart attack when I did it the first time because after I did it I got the "WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH".

Then I did a few battery pulls and then I got the weird all-white "NONE" theme with the stick figure icons and then from there I finally got things fixed.

I may just wait untill the official T-Mo 4.5 comes out. Or maybe wait for the Javelin. At this point I'm just trying to get DM on my Vista notebook so I can sync and backup.

Thanks for your reply and help.

I've been using the Beta version of over a week now and a friend just updated his curve to the Orange UK 4.5 ealier.

They are both the same, no change what so ever. I'd imagine there is no reason at all for users with the pre release beta to change it to this one.

I'm using 180, the official T-Mo OS of the moment, so at this point I'm just trying to get any version of DM on my laptop to install!

I have found one bug. The "move" option in the media manager only works properly the first time. I took some photos that I wanted to move to a separate folder. The first one was fine, but after that I couldn't do it. I could go to the target folder but would get no menu option to "move here." To move another photo, I have to exit the media manager then re-enter it and move another photo. This bug is robust, in that I've tried battery pull, etc., and it's the same every time. I am using the beta release.

Some things I've noticed so far from this version:

1. My free memory last night after the install was 24MB. This morning it was 19MB. I ran the memory cleanup and it was still 19MB. I did a battery pull and now I'm up to 25MB.

2. The Preloaded Pictures folder is empty. I wanted to get rid of the default blue wallpaper but there was nothing on the device to change it to. A previous beta version of 4.5 had the usual Blackberry theme pictures and such. Nothing here. I may try reinstalling tonight.

3. I use UMA at home, so my 8320 says T-Mobile - TheHouse when I'm at home. I leave Wi-Fi on more or less all the time and when I got to work this morning my device was on the EDGE network with the Wi-Fi icon grayed out, but it said T-Mobile - HotSpot at the top. I brought up the menu and then went back to the main screen and that cleared up.

4. I have two t-zones icons after the install. I checked real quick to see if I had duplicate service books, but I didn't. I just hid one of them (I should hide both since I never use it).

Use the link in the first post of this thread. It will take you to Blackberry's website. Pick your device from the drop down box and then on the next page pick the version you want to download.
