Something else I've noticed with two different versions of 4.5 now is reboots when watching videos on http://m.youtube.com.

Previously as soon as I tried to watch them with a beta version of 4.5 it would reboot every single time. Now I just had a reboot with this version of 4.5 after stopping a video then trying to start it back up. It wouldn't start so I closed out the media player and the handset rebooted.

2. The Preloaded Pictures folder is empty. I wanted to get rid of the default blue wallpaper but there was nothing on the device to change it to. A previous beta version of 4.5 had the usual Blackberry theme pictures and such. Nothing here. I may try reinstalling tonight.

3. I use UMA at home, so my 8320 says T-Mobile - TheHouse when I'm at home. I leave Wi-Fi on more or less all the time and when I got to work this morning my device was on the EDGE network with the Wi-Fi icon grayed out, but it said T-Mobile - HotSpot at the top. I brought up the menu and then went back to the main screen and that cleared up.

4. I have two t-zones icons after the install. I checked real quick to see if I had duplicate service books, but I didn't. I just hid one of them (I should hide both since I never use it).

Go to John Clarks Tip for BB Optimization. There is a great step by step tutorial on how to free up memory. See the link below.

Go to Options, select Security Options, then select Memory Cleaning. Enable it and check out all the different options. If you press the Menu key after enabling it you should also see a Clean Now option.

I'm still messing with mine but I haven't really noticed this doing anything to free up memory on my device.

It won't.

Memory cleaning only makes your deleted items "securely" deleted... as in higher wiped standards. It won't free any additional.

sgtcasey - ever notice a reboot while on a phone conversation? I've had a reboot while watching a video, but I also get them while talking on the phone.

Ah okay, that makes sense.

I just found the option to add the icon to the main menu that when you select it runs the Clean Now process.

Options > Security Options > Memory Cleaning > Show Icon on Home Screen

The icon looks like a shredder on my default T-Mobile Zen theme.

Okay, enough messing with the phone. I'd better get *some* work done today.

I upgraded yesterday. It took about a hour and a half for the upgrade and restore. Everything is working ok so far.

Before the update, I ran close to 27m free... After the update, and adding a couple new apps, I'm closer to 22m. I was just getting ready to ask whether, post-update, I needed to run JC's memory Optimization.

Is it generally advised?

Thanks (I love this place)

the Memory Optimization must be run with the OS upgrade, generally, but you could do it again, if you want.

Two TZones icons is normal for some reason.

It is very rare for any "independent firmware" to be released. Honestly, there is no difference in "independent firmware" than the firmwares released by the carriers. The only difference is the vendor.xml. The vendor.xml is deleted anyway, making it an "independent firmware." So, in essence, there really is no such thing as "independent firmware" as it's all the same.

Default Can't find "Memory Cleaning" option - 07-17-2008, 01:02 PM

I've looked and looked for the "Memory Cleaning" option under Options>Security Options, but can't find it. Is it because I still have OS 4.2 still installed on my Curve 8320?

^^ yep. I noticed the nice little Documents To Go with the new O/S. I did a search and apparently there is more options available with the premium version? I take it this is a pay-for upgrade ...

The HTML email looks okay but I still find empower pro much much better.

You can get more options just by upgrading the Standard Version to the new version of the Standard Version. There are options for this in Docs To Go.

I have not actually. But then I don't even use up the 300 minutes I have on my T-Mobile plan each month since I hardly use my phone to actually talk to someone. It's all email, IM, and web surfing.

So far I am pushing one hour for my upgrade. It has been at a white screen with hourglass for almost 20 minute. The DM progress bar is actually moving. The wait is killing me!

Yeah, that wait seems like it takes forever but I'd just go do something else for a while then come back. Less temptation to start thinking it's locked up and do something rash.

Now if you come back after 90 minutes and it's still going... :P

FWIW, I haven't seen a report of the infinite hourglass in a long time. The upgrade will work. The first reboot after installing an update just takes a long time. Subsequent reboots will be back down to 1-2 minutes.

RIM HTML...

Only because I don't like having 3rd party apps that I don't need. Empower and BBSmart are great apps, though.

there is only one difference between independent and Operators firmware - there some operators soft and icons in menu. I like clean firmwares.

Like what? It has to do with the brand (vendor code) on the device as to what is loaded to the device. You will wait quite a while for a version direct from RIM.

I haven't seen any direct-from-rim versions released of this OS... and you only need to clean out the cod files you don't want, as it is.

I have downloaded the newer DM and the newer software. I am loading it to my phone now, but a screen popped up asking me to select a device. It has a PIN and password section. What do I do?

If this has been posted please excuse me and point me in the right direction.

I am currently using the Tmobile mobile (my faves i believe) theme. I changed the background picture. I noticed that when i am on a callit reverts back to the standard blue theme, and as soon as the call is ended it goes back to the background of my choosing.

My question is, is this something that was occouring when I was running OS 4.2.2.184 (close enough), or is this something specific to this release?

Thanks in advance

Actually that was something and I already answered it. ANother question though...

I am having trouble downloading the software to the phone. I am unable to find where the software is and the next step I need to take. Any advice?

Your software downloads to your PC where you instruct it to do so. Usually, it is defaulted to the same place you downloaded to the last time you downloaded a file such as this.

So, we can't answer that question, much like if you asked me where you parked your car (I don't know, where were you when you got out of it?).

Knowing the file name you downloaded, you could do a simple search of 8320*.* in your c:/ hard drive and locate it, I am sure.

So, Having a fun issue. Have plenty of free RAM and everything is snappy! However, If I do a battery pull, it looses all of my settings for my theme. (BB Dimension Today Plus)....

Any Ideas?????

Edit - By Settings, I mean hidden Icons and Icon placement...
