Default OS update help - 07-21-2008, 10:58 AM

I used the download links for the 4.5 version of the DM and the OS from this link. Installed the DM without any problems. installed the OS for the handheld, deleted the vendor.xml and unlocked the themes and when i tried to upgrada the handheld, i got the following message:

Invalid configuration:
The application browser cannot be loaded because it requires the following applications that are not available;
net.rim.blackberry.xml

The only option i have left after this is to cancel. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

BB Support rule #1: When in doubt, pull it out..... (the battery)

In unlocking your themes, you have mis-edited your "blackberry.alx" file. Same thing has happened to me.

My recommendation, what I have done, is simply reinstall the OS, and edit the blackberry.alx file again playing closer attention to your edits.

Also, you might have posted this in the the 8320 OS upgrade thread you linked to... keeping all this in one place, but no big deal.

^^That above, should handle your problem.

Upgraded last night. I'm on T-mobile. No problems so far. OS was running a little slow the first few reboots. No media card trouble.

One small problem with the OS is when you create a Folder, the only icon available is the Manila Folder.

Read up in this thread and you will see info posted that the stock wallpapers and customizable folders were not included in this OS, for some odd reason. John Clark posted an extra install procedure in our Media section Stickies for this (and in this thread... scroll up).

hey guys if anyone has updated to the 4.5 Desktop manager, I used the 4.3 Desk top manager to load in the OS 4.5 and it works great... it's been about 4 days now and everything seemd to be functioning perfect... Browser is quick and ercording is amazing... If any one is having trouble loading the OS 4.5 try unistalling the Desktop Manger and reinstalling it. It should work on detecting OS 4.5.....

I must have gotten stupid overnight but I installed desktop software 4.5 and downloaded the new 4.5 OS upgrade. I also have deleted the vendor file. When I connect my phone nothing happens and I dont know how to load the new OS. What am I doing wrong here? I am operating on XP if that makes any difference.

You want to also install the upgrade, if you haven't. After that run the DM (desktop manager) and connect your phone and it should prompt you to update the phones software.

Whoops, nope. I think the OP should be edited with a list of known issues.

Also, there's no need to double and triple post.

Holy memory leak batman!

Been running 4.5 since Friday. Everything seems to be running smooth. Did a status check and I'm down too 12mb free. I was at over 22mb almost 23mb on Saturday. Maybe 30-40 small emails (no attachments), some browsing, Viigo, and a phone call or two and that's about it from a useage perspective.

Default Verizon Theme? - 07-21-2008, 05:59 PM

Hi guys,

I download and installed the new OS yesterday, it runs fast & i love the video camera. About Docs2Go, it only offers Word & PowerPoint, would I have to pay to get the Excel portion?

Lastly, how do I go about downloading & installing the Verizon Curve 8330 model theme onto my T-Mo phone with the new 4.5 OS loaded? Is it even possible?

thanks in advance...

From the app, run the updater. I think you get spread to go with the update.

You can add any theme you want and remove stuff you don't want by following the instructions in the Memory Optimization thread in my signature.

Make sure you checked the Docs To Go app in the Application Loader. Then from the Docs To Go app, be sure and do the free upgrade to get Sheet To Go.

I keep getting PM's saying link is broke so I added a second link. Two to choose from. JSanders highlighted in red right below the links that they may go dead from time to time. Be patient and try back as they will come back up.

I just did my first-ever blackberry upgrade to 4.5. I figured it would be best to read every single post in this thread before I got started and et voilŕ I was able to upgrade without any problems.

This version seems great so far. The only thing I need to look into is how to get the stock wallpaper back on the device. I know this was mentioned earlier so I'm gonna go back and look for it.

I am debating whether to remove Viigo due to this very reason. Does this run in the background or only when you actually use the app?

I finally managed to get the OS, docs to go and all third part apps on. However, NO DATA.
The TCP settings are ok. The apps load normally, i dont get the no data connection prompt, but none of the apps work.
What could be causing this? apps work fine on wifi, but not on edge(gprs)

Is there another rss reader you use or going sans rss? I don't know if I can go without my rss.

I don't recall seeing such large memory swings after a bp with my old tmo 4.2. 2-3-4 mb sure... But never 8-9mb.

No, we cannot, and if so, a link on BBF to an OS on Rapidshare would be deleted.
