After the update everything works fine except that I have very low memory. Down to 4MB at times. So I removed the stock wallpaper and folder images again and also deleted some other 3rd party apps I used, such as the Opera Mini browser, Handango, etc.

I just did another battery pull and now I'm at 13357756 Bytes. Before the pull I was at around 12MB.

Right now I have the following applications installed:

AIM 2.0.46
AvantGo 1.0.28
BlackBerry 4.5.0 Core Applications 4.5.0
BlackBerry 4.5.0 System Software 4.5.0
BlackBerry Attachment Service 4.5.0
BlackBerry Maps 4.5.0
BlackBerry Messenger 4.5.0
BrickBreaker 4.5.0
Browser 4.5.0
Documents To Go 1.002.016
Email Setup Application 4.5.0
Facebook 1.2.0
Google Talk 2.0.46
Help 4.5.0
ICQ 2.0.46
MemoPad 4.5.0
Password Keeper 4.5.0
Phone 4.5.0
Sudoku 1.0.10
Tasks 4.5.0
Windows Live Messenger 2.0.46
Yahoo! Messenger 2.0.46

Any idea why my memory is so low?

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

This release of it does not support Chinese. Maybe one of the Asian carriers has a release of this version that includes Chinese. You'll have to check around on their OS download sites.

Your PC is on Vista? Excuse me if you also stated this in your post.

I know of at least two others who are having a struggle getting OS 4.5 recognized to install, who are using Vista. I don't know the correlation, but there is something going on not popping up the "new OS install" functions.

it is strange tho, after i delete the Vendor file I went back to double check that it was gone and all the menus disappeared, the RIM folder goes straight to a Blackberry Folder instead of what usually came after clicking the RIM folder.

So is the OS installed or not?

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files
In this folder should be a folder corresponding to the version of software you've installed

I'd be curious if you uninstall DM4.5 and load DM4.3 what happens... anyone willing to try, that is having issues loading the upgrades, when all else has failed.

I have been using this release for about a week, and almost everything is working great. I can't get google maps to work though. It starts to load and the progress bar gets to 90%, then it asks for permission to access info that may identify my location. Then it hangs and I get this error: "Uncaught exception: Application GoogleMaps(262) is not responding; process terminated."

I have removed all of the google apps and reloaded them. Then I tried removing only google maps and reloading it. Same problem every time. Any ideas?

Thank you.

grinella, I don't have a solution for you (sorry, i'll leave that to the experts on here), but just wanted to let you know I was able to successfully DL Google Maps and get it to load. I'm on Tmo as well.... so it "should" work for you as well.

Did you optimize your BB memory and maybe alter something you shouldn't have?

The Google Maps issue is a known issue if you are on a BES AND have an Application Control Policy on your account on the BES. There is no workaround as of yet without removing you from the Application Control Policy.

You can download and install an older version of Google Maps:

HTML Code:
http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.6.4/L1/gmaps-BlackBerry-8320_v4_2_L1.jad?make=BlackBerry&model=8320%20v4%202&ver=v1.6.4&dc=Web_exp02
The link is case sensitive.

^^That's what I did a long time ago.

Also, check your database sizes. go to Options >Status and then hit menu and select "database sizes." You'll see what else is taking your memory.

OK so I'm still having restart issues. This only happens with the media card inserted. I put my media card in a 4.2 device, formatted it, put it in my 8320 4.5 and formatted it again. Sat in there blank for a long time without issue.

Copied music using DM4.5's Media manager. Device later restarted and would not start up while I was on the phone. Pulled media card out and it's working fine. I've confirmed that no .dat or .db files were going over to the device.

Media card is a Sandisk 2GB.

Can't receive picturemail after upgrade on TMO curve.
Did I do something wrong? I just switched from a Sprint 8330. Love the new OS, but miss my picturemail.

For what it is worth, the install fails with either DM 4.3 or 4.5 under Vista. The vendor file was definitely deleted and the computer was restarted multiple times. I have even gone so far as to do a 'clean uninstall' of DM as per the Blackberry technical fact and reinstall.... still nothing... I hope these issues are addressed in the official TMO release.

When you say "install fails," what exactly is the message you get? It's likely a computer issue and not a BB/OS issue and won't be any different with an "official TMo release."

I'm using Desktop Manager 4.3.0.17 and I was able to load 4.5.0.52 onto my 8320 with no issues. I'm using Vista.

Another reboot today, this time when I pressed and held 1 to dial into my voicemail. The call connected, I heard the "Please enter your..." and reboot. It was a fast reboot, though. The phone came back after about 15 seconds and it was still showing my call but it appeared to be locked up. Then it switched back to the main screen and I was able to call into my voicemail again.

Just want to say thank you. I downloaded the newest version of desktop manager and then down loaded the new device software( from ur links on this thread) and followed ur instructions on deleting the vendor file.

AND....

On my T-Mobile 8320 it works perfect! Youtube works, no sim problems and everything is operating great.the update was definately worth the time and effort to install.

Thank you for the great post

It's a lot of minor stuff in my opinion. All in all I'm happy with this version despite the occasional reboot. I don't talk to anyone I can't call back work or non-work related and sometimes I'd be somewhat happy to have a reboot happen during a call depending on who I'm talking to. :P

Well Docs to Go is a decent sized application. About 1mb or 1.5mb? Do you really need all those chat/messenger applications? If you have stuff on your BB you don't use, get rid of it via John Clark's memory optimization guidelines.got pictures on your phone rather than a media card? That'll eat some memory.

Not the Orange UK release. I've however stumbled upon the "All Languages" version of .52, which includes the East Asian languages. Not sure if it's been released by a carrier, but google around and you should find it.

BTW, this particular version has been problem-free for a day on TMO 8320. I've also noticed a small improvement on audio quality.

I would also like to note that I have had no problems whatsoever with .52. It even frees up more memory than the past 4.5 releases.

To the person who cant install; you are definately doing something wrong. Have you tried opening DM and clicking on the app loader? You can also try to opening the DM and then connecting your phone. I've run into this issue myself, and running the app loader worked.

If you're comfortable using the BB, you can also delete the Help app as well. I've personally never used it and deleted it to free up some space. And if you don't play BrickBreaker, delete that too.

Not for me yet.
Hmmm. You actually contacted T-mo on this one? Intersting that they would comment on it at all. But if they say its not ready for primetime, then I guess I'm gonna wait too. I was just getting a last read on this thread before I went ahead and did it myself. Thanks for your post... I'm gonna wait now!!

This could have been there for the last 6 months for all I know, but thought I'd share it.
You must mean, if your running 4.5 correct? My 4.2 OS does not seem to have that option....?

I don't recall seeing such large memory swings after a bp with my old tmo 4.2. 2-3-4 mb sure... But never 8-9mb.
You could try an earlier version of Viigo. (It worked fine)

I know of at least two others who are having a struggle getting OS 4.5 recognized to install, who are using Vista. I don't know the correlation, but there is something going on not popping up the "new OS install" functions.
Not sure if those with installation issues are having the same problem I had, but I was one of those who had trouble getting DM to install on my new Vista notebook. Actually, I had initially downloaded 4.3 (before I saw this 4.5 post) which would backup but not synchronize due to a "connection specific error" so I had searched those terms and found a really old thread and I read NJBlackberry's suggestion to try 4.2 since 4.3 was known to be buggy on Vista and when I posted that 4.2 wouldn't install, JSanders (thanks JS!) was kind enough to suggest 4.5 and directed me over to this thread.

Well, installation of 4.5 failed due to an "interruption before completion" and I kept re-trying and struggled with this for a few hours. By then, I thought for sure it was a computer issue so I posted the problem on the TabletPCreview.com forum and an expert there who has come to my rescue many times (Drtigerlilly) had asked what my error message said and totally went out of the way to find a solution for me. After googling this error:

"The wizard was interrupted before BlackBerry Desktop Software could be completely installed.

Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.

Click finish to exit the wizard."

Drtigerlilly found the solution -- here on BBforums!

Here's what Drtigerlilly posted:

"Press the windows Key + R type in regedit in the run box & hit enter look for the following entries & delete them

Remove the following keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Research In Motion/
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Research In Motion/

Remove the following folders:
C:\Program Files\Research In Motion
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion
C:\Documents and Settings\%Username%\Application Data\Research In Motion

"

I had to laugh when I saw that Drtigerlilly found it here on BBForums!

The whole problem was that DM won't install if another version of DM is present on the computer. I had removed the RIM folder in program files but of course I didn't know about the "hidden" ones!

Anyway, the point is, I was finally able to install DM (and BB Handheld software for 4.5) on my Vista notebook and it works great even though I have decided to keep using the T-Mo 4.2.180 OS on my 8320.
