OS: 8310 4.5.0.75 / 4.5.0.52 (MultiLanguage) -
07-16-2008, 08:05 PM
Software Download for TIM Italy
Quote:
Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8310 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.75 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 4.5.0.75
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.5.0.52
Software Platform: 2.7.0.66
File name: 8310M_PBr4.5.0_rel75_PL2.7.0.66_A4.5.0.52_TIM_Ital y.exe
File size: 74.38MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.
|
For East Asian Language Support: Click Here.
Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8310:
1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed.
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.
To find previous versions of the OS for this device, click http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html
Note: Preinstalled wallpapers and folder icons are not included in this release.

Wirelessly posted (Breaking Ball)
Over the past week or so, I've noticed a decrease in battery life with .52.
I'm giving it a few more days before I consider going back to .48

Guys,
What's the difference, assuming there is, between the 4.5.0.37 and this latest one.
Anyone tried both ?

Yes I have. I tried .37 and hated it. A big broswer glitch and could not post in forums from it. Also, got many java.lang errors while trying to run some different 3rd party apps. Using .52 is much better! Definately worth the upgrade.

Same here. I just installed 4.5.0.44 yesterday and don't really feel like doing all the steps to free up the memory and unlock all the themes again. I like having the newest official OS installed but if there isn't much of a difference in performance then I think I'll just stick with .44. Especially since I haven't had any problems with it and have about 24-28 MB free.

This is the most stable of all the 4.5 OS's released so far. I would recommend upgrading to this!

Hmm..I don't know....
I've been having the 4.5.0.37 OS for my 8310 for a couple of weeks now, and it's working just fine..! I had almost zero glitches uprading and using many of even the 3rd party apps ( I have eOffice, Nav4All ).
unless this new OS has something VERY special, I think I'll just stick to what I have...
Does this lastest OS have something better than the .37 ?

It fixes issues with entering text in the browser, sending voicenotes via BBMessenger and is overall a more polished release. Suit yourself.

OK, cool...thanks, JohnC
Well, as I said I have no issues with the .37, so I'll stay where I am.
At least for now....
Cheers

Would this process seem a sensible step by step how to
1 Do a back up of my phone
2 upgrade Desktop and Device Manager to the latest ones.
3 download and install the OS as per JSander's post # 1 and follow those instructions
4 also follow the memory maximisation thread as per John Clarks thread.
sit back and try it out.

3. and 4. To do the "John Clark memory optimization", insert that in the process after downloading and installing the new OS to your PC... and before you plug your BB to the USB and open DM.
Good luck, it is not a complicated process as long as you follow the instructions as written. Post back here if you have questions.

no, keep it in case you want to go back.
you can delete it if you like and get it later if needed but it won't do any harm to have it

Not sure where to post this. Please move to another location if needed. I just wanted to alert folks.
Do not use the Surreal theme on 4.5. You will regret it.

Ok, this download went off without a hitch, and everything seems to be working fine EXCEPT I still cannot record videos; the application will open, and it will APPEAR to record, but it will not save the videos, though I can save pictures and voice notes without issue. I have 17.9MB of free space, and I don't really have any other programs that I want to get rid of so... I'm kind of at a loss here.

^^^Appreciate the attempt, but I do have a 4GB media card, with about 1GB of space remaining.
Edit: Also, I have already removed everything from the media card, tried to record, failed, reformatted the card in the 4.5 OS, tried to record, failed, replaced the data I had removed from the card, tried to record again, and failed again lol.

Look at Video Recorder > Menu > Options > Folder.
Are you saving to the Media Card?
Can you take a picture and save to the card?

i've installed this OS update and that process went very smoothly. i do have an issie, tho. after installing the OS, i decided to have a gander at each of the themes i have installed in order to figure out which ones to get rid of. when applying one (i can't remember the name of it, tho), i keep getting an "APP ERROR 523 - RESET" error. i've reset numerous times and pulled the battery but every time the curve boots up, i get the same error. any ideas about what i can do in order to get my curve running again? any help is appreciated.

It says i'm saving to /Media Card/Blackberry/videos/
And yes, I can save both pictures and voice notes without issue.
Here's the thing... when I'm recording a voice-note, and select "pause", it will give me the option to rename it or whatever; in the lower left hand corner, it will show the elapsed time and the file size in KB.
When I'm recording video, and I hit "pause", it pulls up that same info, however, the file-size is always 0KB, even though the video length shows correctly. It will not allow me to play what i just recorded, and if i attempt to rename it, i get the message "The selected file is read-only. Are you sure you wish to rename it?" If I select "yes", i get the message "File not found".
Also, Menu>Close will not close the application, and neither will the "back" button, UNLESS I select "delete" to remove the file I was attempting to record. Otherwise, in order to leave the application, i have to press the red "close/end call" key, which I assume leaves the application open.
Hope that clears things up a bit.

Until a better idea, my first suggestion will be to reload the OS.

Pasley... sorry for the miscommunication. It was directed at raqholiday,... but reading your deal now, you've attempted to load a Theme and hit error 523. You need to reload the OS also. Apparently your theme was not compatible and NOT all OS 4.2 (and below) themes are compatible with 4.5.
It will help to know which theme was the culprit so you can either not load it again or UNloaded it after the OS is reloaded.

noticed that the custom folder icons are no longer there, now u just have the plain manila folder icon.
Two months ago, I saw a provocative movie on cable TV. It was called The Net, with that girl from the bus.

Man, iono HOW everyone is ending up with so much free memory... I don't have THAT many 3rd party apps installed, just webmessenger, xplayer, google maps, Opera, BB411, and a chess game...I'm tempted to remove blackberry maps, since I use googlemaps more often than not... i've already removed a bunch of themes, brickbreaker, Help, the preloaded wallpapers... and I still can't break 21MB lol

IF you remove the wallapaper cod files in the JCMOP Memory Optimization, your custom folders will be gone as well.
