John Clark and the team at BB Forums really need to be commended for the fantastic work they do. I am so happy to report that after (minor) issues and reading through this entire forum I am now upgraded to the new OS and it works really well.

I am one of those that needs my blackberry so I can't upgrade for the sake of it. This was the reason I asked over and over for all issues and to make sure that I could iron them out before ugrading.

Here is what I recommend for those who are contemplating it.

1. Make sure you read ALL of this forum so that you get all the help needed before upgrading
2. Make sure you use the right OS as John has highlighted
3. All third party applications can be reinstalled so dont fuss about them. After two tries and waiting 1.5 hours I stopped the intsallation and removed the third party applications. After I did this the installation went smoothly and only in 30 mins. To top if off there was only one reboot and after that I was good to go.

Super work and I feel really happy to have the new OS. Thanks again to everyone for your help.

It does indeed run great on this latest OS - much less lag with moving around the map and the transit search is great

Is this one like the .37 release? I upgraded to that one , and now I can't figure out how to lock my keyboard ( used to be alt + enter), or do a hard reboot without pulling the battery ( used to be ctr + alt + del )

Best way to lock the keyboard (IMO) is to press and hold the mute button on the top of the phone for a couple seconds. This puts the phone into standby mode.

Alt + Right Shift + Delete does a reboot

If you are using the MP3 player, and you use the mute key, it will stop the mp3 player. So that isn't a viable option for it. I use the mute key when I carry my phone in my pocket, but at the gym, when I'm using the mp3 player I need to be able to lock the keyboard and still listen to my tunes!

ah, gotcha. You could try disabling Home Screen Dialing (always a good move IMO) and using the 'K' shortcut to lock the keypad.

The Home Screen shortcuts are amazing once you learn them. I don't click the trackball any more!

Question - When my voicemail comes on in the passed once i've checked it both the indicator and the text message would automatically dissapear. Now only the indicator goes but the voicemail stays. Anyone else experiencing this...its a very small but honestly annoying issue....

Reboots are usually caused by a conflicting file on the media card.

Dear friend..
Can I just upgraded this new O/S with my Desktop Mgr ver 4.2.2.12 since I can not download the latest-take so much time to complete.
After installing the O/S and delete vendor.xml then plug in my BB the system told me that there is an updated O/S...So should I continue or try to get new DM first.
Thks in advance

Default Benefits of the new OS? - 08-01-2008, 01:06 PM

I have installed the new OS... I love the video camera.. what else is new? I know with BES 4.1 SP 6 there are more benefits/features, what about stand-alone?

Does anyone have a link to specific changes/new features for 4.5?

thanks!

Default 507 after failed upgrade - 08-04-2008, 11:28 AM

Ok, So i pulled down the 4.5 OS for my ATT 8300, removed the vendor.xml file, and started the update. I get to the point where net_rim_cldc.cod starts to load and get a error "A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's softwarre. Please try again." Well I have tried the update 5 times with the same issue. I pulled the battery and tried with the same results. My only recourse is to remove 4.5 and reinstall 4.2. Anybody have any ideas here?

I installed the beta version of .52, and had some battery issues, are they still present? I had to downgrade to 42, which works a lot better. It can get me through a whole day of usage now .

Well I finally took the plunge and upgraded to this version. All in all looks fine except for some sluggishness when I go to the Media center and now when I reboot (with battery pulled or soft reset), it takes over 15 - 20 mins when before the upgrade, it would generally take about 5 minutes.

Any fixes for these issues?

On .42 I have about 12 megs free after a day of usage. After a reboot I have about 18-20, so I'm happy. hehe. I'm going after the Bold when it isn't 1.000 on ebay! LOL!

Default 8330 Os 4.5.0.66 - 08-08-2008, 09:28 AM

New OS isnt bad, somehow I dont have the html allowed email, I also see a config issue with the browser, I change my settings to use the internet browser because I use a BES it defaults to Blackberry browser (which has restrictions in our company) But the changes wont go thru completely. Other than that not bad.

dkb2715--this thread pertains to the OS for he 8300 model BlackBerry--not 8330.

But, nevertheless, welcome to the BBforums.

There appears to be two options for the 8300. Pick the one that says "Blackberry Curve 8300 Smartphone"

Default Crashing when Making/Receiving Phone Calls - 08-13-2008, 04:40 PM

Did the upgrade without any problems on an AT&T 8300 and all is working fine except that the BB crashes and reboots when I make or receive a phone call.

Reformatting the media card has not helped.

Returning to 4.2

Finally...working well. But anyone has the same problem with log in into Hotmail/MSN messanger? Since I upgraded my BB, I can not log in. Is it because the OS or MSN is having problem?

Would this version work for me? I am on cellular One.
It is now AT&T, but when you switch over, they give you a new sim with the new phone.
I just don't want to mess up my 8300. I will be switching to the bold when it comes out

Best thing to do is to read this thread. Any problems you might face will be here. This is a pretty stable version, though.
