Default RED curve possible on Verizon Wireless - 07-21-2008, 02:22 PM

The red housing I bought fit perfectly on my Verizon curve contrary to what others have reported. I have pics but I don't know how to resize them so that they can be uploaded in the thread. If anyone knows how to do that please let me know so that I can post pics. The only drawbacks that I can tell are that the four top keys (send, blackberry key, back key, and end) don't push in so you have to push down on them almost like a touchscreen but it doesn't really bother me that much because they still work everytime you press them you just don't have the response that you would normally get by pressing down on a key. The other drawback, which is cosmetic and can easily be changed, is that the Verizon logo clashes with the red housing since its silver but some may like that look I personally don't. Most places that sell housings though add the other piece that snaps on so just be sure to buy that too when you purchase the housing of your choice. Other than that everything else is fine so if you don't mind those minor annoyances you can change the housing on your Curve also. Just thought I'd share since I know people have been waiting on actual 8330 housings to become available.

So I can buy the darker Sprint housing too and replace my VZW silver one and it'll fit fine?

But isn't the outline shape on the left and right of the green and red buttons a different curve than the VZW OEM one has? Not being able to press those buttons normally like you said would be horrible. And also, the opening for the LED light to blink through is higher up on the red housing, what about that??

Probably not an issue. The piece that you see on the housing itself isn't an opening but a conduit (commonly used) for the actual LED which is probably in the same place on the board. Can't confirm this though as I don't have both an 8310 and 8330.

Actually, if you compare the housings, the conduit doesn't appear higher on the 8310's housing. The top of the 8310's LCD frame is actually lower than the 8330's. Compare the tops of the LCD frames with the top edges of the housings. There's a difference in that gap (silver on 8330, red on 8310) between the two housings.

Since the Sprint Curve is also an 8330 it would fit perfect, without the button issue of the slightly thicker GSM housings.

Verizon is now offering a "RED" 8830. I could swear I read somewhere also that they are going to have a "PINK" Curve as well (same color as the Pearl)

Not sure I agree. The LED opening on the GSM curve is at almost the very top of the device, with almost no frame above it. The CDMA curve LED opening is several millimeters below the top of the frame. If you look closely into the LED opening, you can see two LED bulbs under there. I don't think they will line up the same, and I would think the top bulb on the cdma would be in the same position as the bottom bulb on the gsm.

bhew85-how does the LED look when flashing red, blue and green? Still see them all perfectly?
