Default Gps? - 07-22-2008, 03:27 PM

I have a new Blackberry 8320 and I was told it had GPS capabilities, but when I ran the pre-installed blackberry maps app, I found no option for it to find my location. I then looked under the options and it listed the GPS Source as "none" (there are no other options than none).

How do i get it to work?

Or was I told wrong?

Or do i need a different application because Blackberry was to cheap to pre-install one?

Welcome to the forums. That device has WiFi not GPS.

The 8310 has GPS and not WiFi.

Although you can download the Google Maps app and it locates your nearest tower and approximate location. It's pretty nifty actually.

You could pick up an external GPS puck to use.

So it is a piece of hardware in the blackberry that enables GPS (not found in the 8320). Well that just sucks. Who wants to pick between WiFi and GPS.

Is Google Maps very accurate?

And how much would a external GPS puck cost?

They vary in price, there are a couple in the Buy/Sell/Trade section here, but I'm not sure if they are still available.
