Default Bes & Bis - 07-23-2008, 10:43 AM

I recently purchased the Curve 8330. I have BES (as defined by my work IT guy has set up my BB so that I can receive work email and my work calendar via a wireless sync). I also have a personal email account set up to receive my personal email. Here are the problems I am having.

• I have restricted website access (e.g., myspace.com)
• I cannot open up excel or word doc from email sent to my work email address.
• I CAN however open up word doc or excel if I send it to my personal email address.
• I cannot change my signature (least important).

My IT guy can open up excel documents on his blackberry that are sent from work but I can’t. The communication is really weird. It is like on one hand (when I go to myspace.com) I am on my work server (because I am restricted and I get their forbidden page) but on the other hand (e.g., I can open up excel document from my home email but no work) I am on another server? Does that ring a bell for you? Please help... Thanks, Donna

Donna, that is odd, and likely some form of a BES IT Policy restriction for the restricted website access.

As far as the word and excel documents, you should be able to do so, but maybe for some reason your BB Attachment Service is not enabled.

My first suggestion would be to have your service books resent to your BB.

Thanks for responding. I am not sure I fully understand service books. I looked at all that I had listed on my BB and I did not see a BB Attachment Service (book) - should there be one? Is there a generic list of usual service books and what they do? Again, I may not be thinking about them correctly - I sort of see them as "programs" to run a software??? Do I request this from my BIS IT guy or from phone company? I have a data plan with my phone company. It looks like the BIS is one too???

Now with the BIS IT restriction hypothesis, could that be bypassed in your mind? Before I hooked up the BIS account I had run of the internet mill...did my work BIS override another server. I am also talking to IT folks while talking with you, I am hoping a collaborative approach may be helpful...it seems a bit complicated.

I appreciate your time and thoughts...

One more thing...I have noted in settings>advacned options>>browser>

two options:

1. Default Browser configuration: Here I can choose either a) internet browswer or b) blackberry browser.

2. Default MDS browser configuration: Here I can choose a) internet browser; or b) blackberry browser.

My first look it was set 1: BB Browser and 2: BB Browser.

I changed it to: 1: Internet browswer and left 2: BB Browswer, I can now access myspace.com but I don't think I am getting my work email...

Thoughts???

Gee, I am never going to get any real work done.
