Ive successfully installed the new OS, and everything works fine except for:

1. I get that New Voicemail Notification _@ in the pop-up window for new voicemails.

2. My battery life is for shyt (only have Jivetalk, Google Maps, and Yahoo Go! installed. Jivetalk is set to go away after 5 minutes, and my battery still drains even when its off, so I eliminated that as a possible culprit. Besides, with all the same apps, I didnt have this issue prior.

3. My phone shuts down for no apparent reason while using it online....NEVER had this happen before.

I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people on this board, so if anyone can assist me with a remedy that would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to go back to 4.2, but these issues (2 & 3) are really forcing my hand.

Thanks,

E

I lost Yahoo Go and BB Maps with this version. I would start with removing that. I don't use Jivetalk, so I do not know about issues with that. I like the e-mail better than with BB Smart, which I also removed.

Thanks. The only reason why I mentioned JiveTalk was becausw I know that if settings are correct it could "run in the background" and I wanted people to know that I ruled it out as an issue. It works fine for me and sincerely don't think it is the source of my ills. Again, it only shuts down on me while using the web, whether it be blackberry's browser or Opera Mini. That and the battery drain are the most frustrating. The crappy "_@" thing in my voicemail notification pop up window I can live with until att officially "releases" their OS version, but the shut downs and battery drain I can not.

Battery life isn't too great in this release. It's not just you. I bought the Seidio 1500mah battery to help with battery life.

I don't understand the shutting down while using the browser. I have not had that issue, nor noticed others posting here with that issue.

For the battery, maybe try conditioning it by draining your battery fully 3x in a row to about 15% charge, and the charging it fully each time to a full 100%. That helps reset the BB battery meter.

This thread is about updating the operating system on your Blackberry 8310. The new OS will add functionality to the 'berry. It is NOT about 'debranding' or 'rebranding' any carrier startup screens, as they are burned into the device's physical firmware and cannot be changed. Period.

I updated using this OS last week and have had no troubles with it.

Are 4.5.0.81 and 4.5.0.55 the same thing? or are they different releases?

On this OS upgrade, they are the same thing... (.81 being the 'package release' version number and .55 being the 'applications' version number).

I've got .55 installed (works great, instructions were awesome - thanks to the author!), but am having the issue we saw on the last page where there is no option for HTML email at all. All I have under Email Settings are:

Confirm Delivery (Yes/No)
Confirm Read (Yes/No)
Send Read Receipts (Yes/No)

I read something about service books updates. What's the process there?

Thanks!

No news on AT&T. There is rarely any pre-announcement of OS upgrades available at the carrier level, it just happens.

Meanwhile, help yourself to the one posted for your model. There won't be a dimes worth of difference in these and what AT&T finally allows.

Default problems connecting - 08-11-2008, 05:04 PM

after following the directions, the process ends successfully (as far as it is concerned at least), but the device has an icon in the center with the number 561 under it. thinking it was similar to the 507 problem, i attempted to run the application loader again, but i was unable to connect to the phone. dm shows no device connected.

now what?

Ill try that. Perhaps the meter needing to reset could be the issue. It went out on me 4 times today, once while on the phone, and two other times while just bb messaging. The battery said I was at 45%. Only problem I forsee John, is with it shutting down on me at 45% how in the world will I ever get to drain it to 15%....? (delirious smirk)

Yes, a battery pull/reboot or soft reset (alt + shift + delete) every 2-3 days helps manage it.

Smile shut down - 08-12-2008, 10:58 AM

I love this new version! My only gripe is that it shuts down a lot when I am online. It will just freeze sometimes and I have to do a battery pull and other times it just goes to a black screen with the red light in the top corner then restarts itself. I saw another person with the same issue. Anything we might be doing wrong? I do love the extra memory and the recorder, so this version is an absolute keeper!! I just wanted to let you know what was happening...Thanks guys!!

Latest verion is working good for me. Have 29mb free and the battery is lasting longer than with the version before this. No error messages, well at least in what I am doing on my 8310

Link, if you wouldn't mind? I may be going blind, but don't see it there. Running .69 (with Empower) but still don't seem to be getting full HTML emails, still being stripped it appears. Didn't realize there was anything I had to do.

Thanks!

I have yet to speak with anyone who can assist me with this very issue. It began just like you mentioned, then it got to the point no matter what I did, once my battery got to like 80%, it would shut down...email, text messaging, bb message...whatever I was doing it would shut down. Less power each reboot, not even staying on after the reboot when I tried to do something. Only time it stays on is when I have it plugged in. Then I can do whatever I want....HELP PLEASE!!!! Or direct me to a link where I can "rollback" my OS (one question, will that make me lose my 3rd party apps by going backwards?)

Default Blank screen with "561" - 08-12-2008, 11:03 PM

I followed instructions, deleted the vendor.xml file, everything seemed to be going according to plan, but I got a "fatal error" message and was told it was unable to install. Nothing but white screen, small icons and "507". "507" changed to "561" when DM tried to establish a connection. I tried running DM again, and it shows my device pin, but asks for a password. I don't have a password (that I know of)!!??

Any help. Need my phone for home office, I'm kinda screwed here.

Thanks,
TB

i just happen to skim somewhere that perhaps 'blackberry' is a valid password... don't know.

I had the fatal error and did not bother. I might just do it anyway...

....

Edit

Got it on there. Took awhile, as noted previously. Things seemed a little syrupy. Not too bad overall; the icons are all back to default (not hidden, not organized :(). Haven't seen HTML email work yet... probably mentioned somewhere.

Mentioned in beta reviews: New font is fantastic; a variation of Verdana, all rendered nicely anti-aliased. Media player reminds me of the WinAmp days (not great), though I'm more of a fan of iTunes or BlackBerry Bold styles.

A video camera! OK!

New browser is really nice; a mouse-pointer-- get out! Search is long awaited and great, YouTube is handy, I suppose. JiveTalk works all day, battery seems good. As does GoogleMaps; no GPS slowdowns as mentioned before.

I'm still going to go back to the iPhone... :D

I just installed this update on 3 phones with all success (from 4.2.2) the only problem that i see is that the theme works on everything except for my text messages list and my email list. Is there any way to fix this all i get is a plain white theme with no bars just says edge and has the time. Just curious.

Thanks,
Fizban

You can choose whatever theme you desire, if not already in your device at options > themes, look for others in our Media section of the forum here, make sure you get one for OS 4.5

Good luck, and welcome to the BBForums.

Silly question probably but I have to ask - when the OS gets released by your carrier officially, will the BB's in the field get updated? Or would one still have to go thru the steps of hooking it up via the USB cable and Desktop Manager?

There's no OTA upgrade if that is what you are asking. Upgrading the OS on your Blackberry is an overt, deliberate user-initiated process.

Hmmm - I'm just wondering how that works for enterprise situations. Do admins just let the user upgrade if they want, otherwise they're SOL?

Problem-

I downloaded the 4.5 software and went to delete the vendor file. I deleted it then went into the Desktop Manager and no upgrade was there?

You need to double-click the 4.5 software download to install.
