I have finished the upgrade. Now the 2 times I have connected back to my DM it still prompts me to upgrade. Is there more to do or do I just need to delete the file from my PC.

Not sure but I am curious if you let the applicaton loader run, what does it show you?

In OPTIONS/ABOUT do you see your new version?

Its telling me....

Updated versions of the applications listed below are available for your device.

Then it list everything that is going to be updated. Just like it did when I first did the upgrade.

v4.5.0.55 (Platform 2.7.0.68)

I am betting you did not check all the needed applications in the OS upgrade, and it still wants you to do so. This was an issue with the Basque language option for one release, it would keep bugging to install it.

That's probably what I did. So should I redo the update or will it mess everything up?

My first inclination would make sure the important things are checked and let it run.

And it is not biggie if you need to run it again, either, completely fresh.

Yes, I understand that, but there is no difference whether I am indoors or out. The circle shows 1600 meters. Now this morning as I type this the darn thing makes me a liar by rsolving down to 3 meters.. There must be a coincidental issue with satellite coverage AND my upgrade.

Strange...

Default battery life greatly improved - 09-15-2008, 10:58 AM

4.5.0.55 improved battery life dramatically

I was having huge battery problems with 4.5.0.37 on the 8310. I tried everything to improve the situation and was about to get a new battery when I updated to OS to 4.5.0.55.

Now battery life is great again. I can go for two full days of hard use without charging (just like before).

I just picked up a 8310 (hope I have it right AT&T model) curve. I have used an 8700 and a Pearl. I am sad to say I have never upgraded my software on the unit. I have always been worried about messing it up.

I am supprised that the AT&T Curve that I just got from the AT&T store has operating system v4.2.2.170 on it. It looks like we are up to 4.5xxx at this point. Can I jump to 4.5xxx or do I need to go from one to the next until I get there?

I am really concerned that I will mess things up.

Thank you for your help.

Talking Thank you! - 09-15-2008, 01:27 PM

Can I just say THANK YOU for such great, clear and easy-to-understand (read: "don't panic if this takes a while") instructions? I don't know how many releases I was behind, but everything works flawlessly and my BB has a brand new, updated look on all the screens - SWEET! Doing the happy dance...

It did the same for my (2) phones too... But I do have an MMS issue now. On both phones it will not receive any MMS txts.(it show as if the message was send successfully), All regular SMS txt works fine.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ( I am on AT&T by the way)

Thanks,

Thanks,
I am on ATT as well with 8310 and no MMS issues. Did you resend service books?

Also, my son and daughter both have Pearls, both without data plans, and when I upgraded them to 4.5.0.55 they were able to send and receive MMS using our Family Unlimited Multimedia plan and NO Blackberry data plan.

Apparently my carrier doesn't have an OS version higher than v4.2.2.312 available, but I still wanted to try to update anyway.

However, I'm having problems getting DM to prompt me to upgrade my phone. I installed the new version of DM (4.6) to my PC, rebooted and deleted the vendor.xml file as specified in this thread. When I connect my BB to the USB and run DM, I don't get a prompt to update the OS. I checked in the Help>About>Device Software tab in DM and the latest OS is not listed. Any suggestions?

FYI, according to my BB, I'm running v4.2.2.170.

So, you installed Desktop Manager. Did you ALSO install the OS itself to the computer? Do that and then remove vendor.xml again and try it again.

Thanks,
I was able to fix this today..

1. I lowered the resolution on the camera to medium (ATT apparently does not support more than 600kb)
2. I sent my self an MMS (from the same phone to the same phone).

It has been working since then.. tested this on both phones and it worked.

Default Memory leak with 4.5? - 09-18-2008, 01:11 AM

New to the forum, tons of awesome info here. I have a serious problem tht I hope someone can help with.
I updated my 8310 to 4.5.0.55 last week. Everything seemed to be working fine. I needed Docs To Go Premium for work (and they paid for it ) so I bought that and installed with no problems. I tried to create a document, though, and my BB said there isn't enough memory to do so. I can open files, but I tried to do a simple edit on an Excel field and it said there isn't enough memory to even do that.
Went through John's thread for freeing up memory, did everything he said (plus deleted all of the non-english modules for Docs To Go), and I still only have about 2.5 MB. Cleaned out my messages, didn't help. Cleaned the cache on my browser, didn't help.
The weird thing is that other than the Docs To Go problem, I've noticed nothing abnormal.
I'm using an 8310 on AT&T.
Any ideas? I'm stuck.

507 just means no OS. JL_cmder's wipe feature is designed to display a 507 error on the device. Just plug in and run application loader to load the OS. If that doesn't work, is there a specific error you're getting?

what are the chances of going from 4.2.2 to 4.5.0.81 [1] crashing my theme and [2] modifying all of my options? I will use desktop manager and not JL Commander...

Ok quick question, was the latest upgrade supposed to give html email? I was waiting to see since saturday, finally got an html email and it looks exactly like it did before?? Do I have to install anything else? Activation something? I have video and docs to go and it shows newest OS but no html email :(

FWIW

I recently downloaded the latest OS (.55) for my 8310 per instructions and links here. At first it did not want to go. Gave an error. Did it again and it took a little while but it loaded and all is well. I now have a video camera which I wanted. All else looks good. My wall paper remains and as all other information I had. Not slower but not any faster either.

Cannot tell much difference except I like the default font better. As soon as my media card gets here I can start using my video cam. Just wanted to give a successful download report.

I'm using an 8310 on AT&T.
Any ideas? I'm stuck.
Got tired of fighting with my BB so I downgraded back to 4.2 -- will wait for the AT&T release. I used Crackmem when I reinstalled the OS, though, which really takes a lot of the hassle out of memory optimization. I'd recommend anyone who is installing a new OS use it.
