Just install this one. No need to install the others. Just follow the instructions in the first post.

Hi folks,

I've noticed that every time I activate the speaker phone the Blackberry does a hard reset within a few seconds. I've tested this a bunch of times - the phone works fine, then I activate the speaker phone and it crashes. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,
Ian

I have multiple times, tried reinstalling DM and redownloading the update. I still get an error once the installation begins. It turns off my signal and then proceeds to connect and automatically spits out "A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again." I'm not sure what else to try. Any suggestions? Just keep trying again?

Ian, are you running this specific OS release and this happening?

Have you done a battery pull reboot?

Yes - this OS version (though I noticed crashes during phone calls in the last version too - I just didn't notice the link to the speaker phone, so didn't test it).

I didn't realize a hard reset was different from a battery pull. I jsut pulled the battery, waited 30 seconds, put it back in, and tested again. Same issue. I do have BSmart installed - seems to be running fine. I also have Viigo installed (the beta version). I have a MicroSD card that I formatted with the last version of 4.5.

Is anyone else seeing this behavior?

Thanks,
Ian

I just installed this version, and I have no idea how it happened but BES reactivated on its own without may knowingly doing anything.

I've been told 4.2.2 and higher will activate automatically but I've never experienced it myself. I always start it myself.

It's a relief that it worked with this version as my IT guy must think I'm nuts. The automatic part hadn't worked in the prior upgrades; hopefully they'll continue to do so with subsequent ones.

thanks

No, 4.5.0.81 is the bundle version. 4.5.0.55 is the app version. If you type alt + e a c e you'll see the bundle version listed.

You are up to date.

Im still getting that weird message about not having message services configured. I also get it when trying to reply to text or emails but not all the time. Im gonna do a wipe and reinstall. Other than that, this .55 is much quicker and the 3 MB i found have nothing to do with wallpapers, etc. i always remove those

Just realized that Empower works again with this OS. It didn't with 4.5.0.52. Somehow I thought Empower would need an new update to work again. Must have been a bug in prior OS.

It'd be nice if a1.net actually responded.

When upgrading the OS using a non-vendor release do you lose the programs that the vendor set the phone up with. For example: I am with ATT and have the ATT Navigator. If I use the A1 release, which appears to be the most recent, will I lose that program?

Not if you tell DM to restore all apps. It backups even OTA apps. This is by far the best of the releases. It's much more snappy than the prior ones.

still not working fully for me. As I've said before emails with attachments are essentially frozen, can't open the attachment and the menu key doesn't work. And also as I've said, Empower and BBSmart have told me the problems some of us are having is the result of OS4.5 compatability, and that they're coming out with upgrades soon.

i'm running .52 and i noticed something funny with the media player, sometimes while changing songs it'll pop up a red box saying something to the effect of "unable to play song" (not exactly sure because it goes away fast), and then goes to the next song, but if u go back it'll play the song it just said it couldn't

anyone seen this?

Two months ago, I saw a provocative movie on cable TV. It was called The Net, with that girl from the bus.

As long as you choose the back/restore function when upgrading your OS, it should all be there when done. I manually backup before just in case

Could the fact thatI upgraded the OS on my desktop at work where the server is directly connected explain the automatic reactivation whereas my prior upgrades were done at home on my personal computer?

Barbwyr, I have the Rogers version of Telenav. After each OS upgrade, I have to setup Telenav again. It's easy and fast. The program is still there, but the first time I load it, it asks for language, etc. Then I have to go to Preferences - Connection and ensure that those settings match my carrier's.

Thx to all for the great advice!

I have a 8310...I have 2 issues I have had with all build's since upgrading to os 4.5 and those are that if I attempt to record video at about 1 minute the phone crashes and reboots. The second I have heard of and was curious if there was any fix, that beeing my blackberry messenger prompts to update all users or they will be erased. This happens after each battery pull.

Default Wiping necessary...? - 07-25-2008, 02:49 PM

When upgrading with these latest versions, is it necessary to wipe the phone before installing? Would there be any benefit to wiping the phone clean before installing the new OS?

Thanks.

It seems that Desktop Manager does that during the instalation process. That's one reason why it's a good idea to back everything up first.

4.5.0.55 Rel. 81 in combination with Desktop Manager 4.6 works perfect... faster, more free memory as before. One reason for the extended free memory is, that the preinstalled wallpapers of the OS are not longer available

So .52 works well for you?? I was looking at .55 but your volume complaint concerned me as I like my phone to be loud so I can hear it.

.52 does work well for me. It was great except for the low volume with media player. That was my only problem but its a big problem for me since I am always listening to mp3's and watching videos that I upload. My excitement lasted for only a few hours.

The only downfall for me on .52 was I had to reformat my media card on the first time I installed the OS as I kept getting a error while my BB was trying to read the info but I backed up my media card on my PC and then reformated the card and than transferred back my info and then it was solid.

okay, I'm a newb to this stuff. i'm looking for the update that has the new L theme that the pearl on AT&T has and that will allow the phone do record videos. Is this that update? I'm sorry if this sounds terribly stupid, again, I'm new to this and I was curious what version of the 8310 software I needed to pick up in order to enable those two things.

Thank you very much for your time and I appreciate the hell out of this website.

Any of the 4.5 releases has video for the 8310. This thread covers the latest release 4.5.0.55 but I have seen note that there is a low volume issue that has pushed some users to downgrad to 4.5.0.52 which appears to be the same but without the volume issue. Read this whole thread and the one for the previous release and you will find any answers you need regarding upgrade to 4.5.

The site doesn't seem to be able to handle all the traffic it's getting. You might have to try again later.
