What apps? If you have desktop install versions of apps added to application loader it will "downgrade" them if they are an older version than what is installed. if you used a 3rd party app backup to restore apps then that could also cause it. You need to remove/move the .alx files that are loading with application loader.

I just installed OS 4.5.0.44 two weeks ago... is there any significant differences between .44 and .55 ? I am very happy with .44, so if no changes, I will stay for now.

.55 is much zippier and overall seems better. I'd upgrade.

Minor bug fixes in .55. .55 is much quicker and seems to be smoother all-around.
You're not going to see new features in these small incremental upgrades. Usually bug fixes and things that may be transparent. They may have improved battery life with minor tweaks or improved media card reading, etc. When the OS is still this new, I recommend upgrading.

My company has the BES set up to do OTA syncing of email and calendar. I had a problem with the DM software changing the service books so all of the OTA syncing was stopped. We got the RIM support guy on the phone to get it fixed. He had me reinstall DM with BIS support - NOT BES support - so that it would not mess with the service books. The downside, I guess, is that I cannot do what John suggests. Every time I reload the OS I have to send a note to my IT guy to get him to set up a new OTA BES activation.

Yes, I've noticed volume drop but, for me, it's not enough to prevent me from upgrading.

I upgraded my 8310 to 4.5.0.55 (with Desktop Manager 4.5.0_b016) and noticed that everytime I connect my BlackBerry, I get an upgrade prompt about three applications.
When I click 'Update Now', however, it tells me that nothing needs to be upgraded. Did I do something wrong? Does anyone know how to fix this?
I've attached the relevant screenshots below.

Nor did I. I did notice that the volume drops back to the default levels when the upgrade is complete, but once I cranked them back up to where they had been previously, I can again blast out my eardrums.
Of course, I had to re-adjust the volume for phone calls, PTT and media seperately as all were set back to defaults.

Couple of questions--informational, not argumentative:
1. When you say that 55 is faster than 52, what exactly is faster? The browser? Everything else seems almost instantaneous with the BB including my 3rd party programs, the camera, etc.
2. Is the BB Maps-ATT problem solved, or do you still have to either install the old 4.2 BB Maps by copying them over to the Java folder, or else install the BB maps separately from the RIM site in order to have the 4.5 maps work with ATT?
3. I always delete the vendor.xml file first, of course, with each new update. But do you still have to go through the process of manually getting rid of the ATT ID in the maps alx (I think that's where it was, but there was something blocking maps with ATT) and also do you still have to get rid of the various vendor IDs in the blackberry.alx file, along with the themes and wallpapers, and delete some of the stuff in the Java folder, as outlined in John Clark's previous instructions on updating a BB OS? Or has all this been taken care of automatically by now?
Thanks very much.

If your device activation does not require a new password to be sent, yes. But I don't know the answer to that question for your BES. They might require a new PW, which would involve the Admin.

Over the weekend I went from .52 .to .55 and I am now seeing more problems on my 8310. The bluetooth does not connect on first try and when it does connect it only last for like a couple minute then on the phone it say it terminated bluetooth connection. I didn't have that happening in .52. Also, Blackberry media player keeps getting some exception error on when I try to stream audio from the internet. That didn't happen in .52 too.
Any way to fix this or is anyone else seeing what I am seeing?

John,
I plan to download upgraded OS 4.5 on my wife's AT & T 8310 tonight. I need to double check with you. Do I need to load up missing preload wallpapers? Here is the link you post for 8320. I don't know if it would also apply to 8310?
Here's a simple alx/cod install for the wallpapers/folder icons.

When you install a new OS the vendor.xml is reinstalled. Make sure it's deleted. Don't rename it, delete it.

I'm having a similar issue - though it's only the phone application that is causing the BB to reset. When I take out the media card, all is well. When I put it back in, the rests start again. I've reformatted a number of times with the BB, but no change. I'm using a 2GB Sandisk card. Is there a known solution to this issue?

Ian

Non-theme controlled message screen? -
07-28-2008, 06:25 PM
Hi all,
I just updated to this version - and so far so good. ONE issue I am having is that it appears my messages screen is no longer theme control - worse off it appears to be 'stuck' in some random blue colored theme (that doesn't even show wireless signal strength!) Has anyone else ran in to this problem? Any fixes?
FYI - I installed this version on an AT&T branded 8310 (if that matters.)
Thanks'all!
~J

Yup - hitting cancel works... But this error, combined with what I noted above in post #193 makes me wonder if my update wasn't applied completely.

Yup - I can change themes, and everything "themeish" chances except the messages screens (Desktop, BIS, and MMS/SMS). The only thing that changes when I select a new theme is the color of the selector/highlight bar (when scrolling through messages.)

Nope - infact, I just tried changing that option to all three options and I don't see a difference any any messages, or the layout/format of the menu.
On your message screen - what is in the upper left corner? Mine is blank with the bluetooth symbol about 1/4th the way over from the left. Typically this should change with each theme.
