Question.
I just installed the new OS (worked like a charm..)
And I'm wondering if there are any *free* themes?
Can i just use the ones I would normally use with the old OS? (I got my old ones from gemblock)
Thanks!
-edit-
wow that search thingy actually works.
Out on your own.
Cold and alone again.
Can this be what you really wanted, baby?

No, I believe it's the "userguidexxxxx.pdf, but it's in the main OS directory, not the Java directory.
|
Thanks. Now I can find it. When John mentioned it, I remembered I had found it in an earlier version (probably at his suggesion) and was wondering why it wasn't there this time....but all I could find in the java directory was the cod files. And that pdf is the exact same one I was so proud to find and download from BB.
It might be a good idea to add a comment in the OS upgrade instructions that the manual can be found in the main OS directory for the upgraded version. I might remember next time but then again........

Yes... it backs everything up, wipes it off, loads the new OS and restores the backup...

Cool beans! Congrats.
As for free themes, search here (the BBF forum), and on the net. Try Themes4BB.com| Free BlackBerry Themes| Multimedia For Your Berry, Black Light Themes Forum - Powered by vBulletin ... there really are a lot of 'em out there...

Anyone?
each time I connect to DM4.5, I'm told there are updates available (four different ones: BB 4.5 Core Apps; Basque Language Support; and Password Keeper). When I click on "update now" I get a "task in progress" bar, which seems to be loading something, and then strangely the update summary window says "no software update is required for your device."
Anyone?
thanks

Do a search of Basque on the forum. It's been answered here already, I'm just not sure if it's here or on another thread. Something to do with removing .eu files.

hangs and app exceptions -
08-03-2008, 06:59 AM
Installed this OS on July 24 as indicated in 1. msg of this thread - went fine.
Ever since I keep getting an exception message when exiting standby mode:
"Uncaugt exception ApplicationRegistry.waitfor (0x125d69656ffebdd2) timeout"
Furthermore it sporadically hangs for up to 5 minutes when opening message list, a message in the list or the call log.
I used OS 4.2.2.194 before. Was stable - but I'd really like to keep the 4.5 features...
Any hint highly appreciated!

ahm..i dont know if anyone had this sort of issue with the 4.2xx os, but i remember in the music player whenever id switch to the loudspeaker and click again on the handset speaker, it would only transfer the sound to the small handset speaker even though the handfree or headphones was connected..I mean normally, shouldnt the sound get transfered automatically to the headphones? Maybe it was a bug, but can anyone confirm that its not present in this release...thanks

i also noticed that the game "outbreak control" doesnt work on this os..It simply hangs up and theres no option to close the game. And also noticed a huge memory leak..it went from around 20-22mb to 11mb and i have only about 5programs installed like googlemap, sudoku, opera, amaze and xd. With the previous version 4.2xx i never had this issue and even had more programs installed and about 10themes and the memory wouldnt drop below 14mb. Though i dont want to lose the video recording, media equalizer option, im considering going back to 4.2xx os...damn i should have never let my bb lose its os virginity..and now i have taken a plung into this vicious cycle of constant upgrades..lol
Btw about my first post i lost my headphones and dont have any right now..so i need someone to confirm..

As stated already, this has been discussed earlier in this thread. If you use search this thread and enter basque, it will come up.
Short answer. It has to do with the eu cod files. Remove them and it will fix it. (Waiting for my next sync to see if this fixes it for me but I only sync about once a week.)

Well I've played with this for a couple weeks and the new functionality (with BES 4.1.6) is very slick. Has anyone noticed their device "locking up" .. I have had the hour glass appear and just sit there spinning which I do the battery pull to clear. It's weird and likely a quirk .. it also seems to slow down here and there.
For those having issues I found doing the battery pull before performing the update helps. Make sure you have the proper Desktop Manager and DELETE the noted .xml file.

Activation Code -
08-04-2008, 05:54 PM
Will applying the 4.5 OS update to my work supplied and configured O2 8310 require me to get a new activation code?
Also, can anybody confirm whether this OS update will enable a Tomtom to use the 8310 with data services?
Regards
Ian

iwaddo..
1. Yes, you will need a new BES activation. Some upgraders have commented it did not require such, but it is more commonly required.
2. Your 8310 already had GPS built-in to the device. If you want to use a TomTom with it, though, you will need to do so via a Bluetooth connection.

I tried searching for cod, but did not find anything that would help. So, please excuse my ignorance , but what is a cod file and where will I find it?
Thank you.

Is anyone having issues with their BB sending Notifications rather than SMS's? After upgrading to 4.5.0.55 OS on my 8310. People are complaining that my SMS's are disappearing after they read or coming up as Network Notifications rather than SMS’s. What's up?

As John has told me - and I'm sure others - a number of times we need to do a "search" before posting since often our issues have already been addressed. This was the case here with me, once again; so, sorry for that. BUT a big thanks to all those who provided suggestions as I was able to achieve the fix.

small problems -
08-05-2008, 06:49 PM
1)I still cannot open atachments in emails, like wmv files......
2)letters got bigger and bolder after the installation, (where are the settings to get letters smaller?)
I am very happy with video player, and voice recorder, and especially with web browser, so much faster and close to using laptop. And YES! YOU CAN WATCH ALL THE VIDEOS ON you tube
Fantastic!!
PS ( Seriously, this blackberry got faster too, i think improvements give me impression of them building a pocket laptop, they can't get any closer, how about google map program?)

That would likely be related to the way the BES works for your company. My company's BES gets email to my handheld 1 to 5 minutes before the same message appears in my Outlook mailbox.

Is it just me or does the battery life on the 8310 not seem to last as long with this OS? I upgraded from 2.4 (i know long time) and with the same amount of usage my battery seems to be draining a considerable amount of time quicker.

Ok, upgraded to the 4.5 and it was super easy with steps on page 1. However, I've noticed a drop in volume on the media player too, my BrickBreaker has locked up once, some of the fonts (in messages and media player) are also different, the address book displays differently (double spaces between entries and lines separating entries). Is this (minus the locking up) JUST with the beta version? Because if this is going to be part of the official release by the provider, it's forcing people to go through changes the way their phone displays stuff.

It's NOT a beta... it's an official release for some provider somewhere in the world. And it IS the way it works now. The double spacing in the address book is (supposedly) to allow the display of the company name. It would be nice if that was a toggle, but it is what it is.
I also happen to like some of the new fonts... but display fonts are also a function of the theme, so try changing themes to see if that makes a difference.
The volume issue has been discussed, and hopefully will be addressed in subsequent releases.

thanks. i actually found the double-spacing in the OS thread for the 8320 after i posted my issues here. sorry for the confusion, i thought this was a Beta version (which shows how much i know). so basically, we (those of us having volume issues) have to wait for the "official" release of 4.5, then wait for them to leak the OS after 4.5?

The version posted here is the latest official release. Forum rules do not allow linking to Beta or unofficial releases.
As soon as a later version is officially released by a carrier, that info will be posted.
Edit to add: reviewed your question. The full file name of this package when downloaded is 8310M_PBr4[1].5.0_rel81_PL2.7.0.68_A4.5.0.55.exe. The last set of numbers, 4.5.0.55, is the release number. I forget what the other sets of numbers are.

John Clark beat me to this, but the 4.5.0.55 IS an "official" release. No need to wait for a 'leak'ed OS, just wait for the next official release to appear.

Hey guy's
I upgraded to the new os and it is installed on the blackberry but i have noticed that every since I installed the update everytime I connect the blackberry to the DM it keeps wanting to update what is already updated.
" Updated version of the applications listed below are available for your device
Blackberry 4.5.0 core applications
Basque Language support
Password Keeper "
Is this norm or can i do something to get it to relize that it has already been updated.
