Default OS: 8310 4.5.0.81 / 4.5.0.55 (MultiLanguage) - 07-23-2008, 07:22 PM

Download here: Updateservice
Scroll down to Blackberry Firmware and find the 8310

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8310:

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 or higher installed.
BlackBerry - Desktop Software - BlackBerry Desktop Software at BlackBerry.com
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

To find previous versions of the OS for this device, click http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

Note: Preloaded Wallpapers and custom folder icons are not included in this release.

In the last two weeks, I've upgraded three times already. (.37, .44., .52) So, why should I do it one more time? Does this fix something? At this point, I'm ready to just wait for a couple more versions until Sunday or Monday to upgrade again.

Haven't really seen anything new. However, with these early OS's it's usually best to upgrade to prevent problems you may not yet know about.

My IT guy is getting annoyed at all the BES reactivations he has to do every time I upgrade my OS. Does everyone else have to do this, or is there an easier way?

I never bother my IT guy with Activations. Activation can take place automatically if DM has an online connection with the mail server. DM has to be installed for BES support. Then it should ask for your email profile. I usually vpn in and then I get an online connection. After the upgrade I leave it plugged in for a few more minutes and EA starts automatically.

What I usually do is setup DM to prompt me for the email profile. Then, I can hit "cancel" and it will treat it like a BIS upgrade with no connection to the server. I do my upgrade. Then when I'm done restoring and making sure the OS seems stable, I plug it back in, open DM and choose my email profile. Let it sit for a few minutes and EA will start on it's own.

I'll try installing DM with BES support. I had been doing it with BIS support. Is there a faq or a stick on this anywhere?

Not from this carrier. MultiLanguage doesn't include CJK. Have to wait until an Asian carrier releases it.

There are webcrawlers that search the RIM carriers to determine if new OSs have been posted... One is even posted on BBF somewhere which does just that. You can do if you want. Basically a batch files runs and alerts the user to any new OS uploads.

That app wouldn't have found this particular version, though. This version isn't on RIM's site. It's on the carrier's own site.

If there is an option for "Email Settings" then it's probably installed for BES/Redirector support. At the bottom you should see "Connected" (meaning the BB is connected) and "Online" (meaning the DM has an "online" connection with the mail server.

I've been playing for a half hour, and I see no differences from the last version in terms of speed or stability.

That's pretty much what I do, except in the manual fashion

When I have some down time, I go to BlackBerry FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ, click on the Operating Systems link and then just search the carriers looking for a new OS. Pretty boring; however, exciting when you find a new one.

Start Application Loader and it should find the newer OS.

I have started Application loader and I get nothing.

It worked to downgrade from 4.5 to 4.2, but it never finds anything to go back up to 4.5 any version.

and thanks for the help.......

Yes. First I did a repair and that did nothing. So I did a complete uninstall reboot and new install.

Did not help. It's pissing me off. I was able to upgrade from 4.2 to 4.5.44 last week.

I was able to downgrade to 4.2 today, but unable to upgrade back to .44 or any higher.

thanks for the help...

Why not install the latest? 4.5.0.55 is the latest in the stickys for the 8310.

Default sorry newbie here - 07-24-2008, 12:33 AM

I just bought my curve 8310 monday last week and have been dying to try the 4.5 upgrade for the video camera and the documents to go, but I am worried about bricking my phone or not being able to down grade if necessary. Am I just being too conservative and is this a decent build to attempt the maiden upgrade with. Also I am on ATT and am a little fuzzy on how the blackberry's work. They can't be locked like a regular phone can they i.e. this upgrade would lose the ATT software but the standard phone functionality would still work correct?

uninstal 4.2 from your pc and try again. Im not sure if this would be safe if something is wrong, but it would be great for troubleshooting your problem. From what I can tell, DM compares the files on your handset to the ones in the java folder. If I am correct in this assumption we would be able to figure out if the problem is you or the software

I've tried that... I get no response about new software from DM 4.5. So I thought since i was able to install .44 last week maybe it would work, but no go....

I did this after the downgrade from .44 and now I can't get DM 4.5 to upgrade the phone any version of 4.5

D'oh... you were posting helpful info while I was typing that.

What I suggested definately wouldnt help if the DM says 4.5 and the handset is 4.2... I think you should try to reinstal the DM and see if it finds the correct version.
