Red face Gmail and BES

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I've been using blackberry on BIS for several years now. Some of my knowledge is a bit outdated, as I haven't looked into setting up a new device for some time. My friend recently asked me for some help with setting up a new bbry - Tmo+BES from work. The idea is to get gmail working in addition to the exchange server at work. After reading the forums i just wanted to confirm/clarify several things:
1. I couldn't find Email setup link in the friend's myTmobile account. Is that because there's no BIS on the account or I just overlooked?
2. I got the steps to setup the gmail account as following: disable pop and imap in gmail, define a new account on the hh, set a filter on tmo website to not sync the "sent" messages. bcc "sent messages"s from Hh to gmail. Is is correct?
3. My friend has multiple send-as accounts in his gmail. is there a way to configure those? I like hh built-in functionality for using different "from" addresses (through send as) . Can this be set-up? Some email lists look at the from field, so changing Reply-to is not sufficient. How's BBreply? is is convenient? I gather that it doesn't modify the from field, correct?
4. What's the current on gmail/bbry sync? How soon the messages appear on hh after appearing in gmail? If i mark a message as read in gmail, does it change the status on hh? vice versa? What happens if I delete a message on hh - does it delete the message in the gmail or archives it? is there a way to archive a message without using Gmail application on hh?
Thank you for your help! Please feel free to share additional advice on the subject.

Alex

Your friend should talk to their BES admin and ask them for assistance.

Depending on how BES is configured, your friend may not be able to integrate their GMail account at all.

So there isn't a web interfact like BIS does to centrally configure all email accounts? (As well as signature!)

On BIS one can centrally manage all email accounts, their filters, and signature.
Is there such website where I can log in and add other email accounts to my BES-enabled curve?

I'm really not sure what you're talking about.
You can only have one BES account on a BlackBerry.
The BES is, by nature, a centrally managed system for BlackBerry devices. Your company IT department would be responsible for administration.
BES isn't something that the end user typically has any control over.

I am not adding another BES account, just wanting to add a gmail account.

Read my first reply in this thread.

Check with the person in your company who manages your BES. They might have restrictions placed on your BlackBerry which will prevent you from adding any additional email accounts to your device.

Ha ha, I clicked on "set up personal email" on my screen and it led me to set up the way I wanted. Too bad there wasn't filter function or signature function. Now I am getting dup from gmail.

I just overlooked, the link was there. It's possible that it wasn't there when I first looked as at that time bbry was not yet activated on BES. Not sure about this bit.

Works perfect.

The sync is pretty fast. Haven't checked other items yet.

You use the very same BIS site. There's no equivalent web site for BES. The "equivalent" is the BES server itself and you can't integrate additional email accounts via BES. Basically BES includes BIS. The BES admin, however, may prohibit or restrict use of BIS.

Those accounts have to be directly integrated with BIS if the intent is to send email using those accounts on the BB itself. They can be set to not deliver email (if email receipt via gmail is still preferred) but they do need to be integrated.

The caveat is that replies for email received via those addresses through the gmail account will by default be sent from the gmail account. IIRC this can be worked around by scrolling into the header and changing the Send Using field.

Oh, I see.

So, basically, I need to setup the same gmail account 2nd time in BIS but use a different From address and set a filter not to deliver messages? Right? Thank you!
