Default Caller ID only shows numbers

Please Login to Remove!

Wanted to see if anyone has figured out how to make the caller id show up as a persons name when they call if their number in the address book has extra letters ie: 123-456-7890~home (with ~ being used as the wait function). I have multiple numbers for each person and I use this to know which number I am calling. I don't necessarily need the extra letters to show up on caller id just the persons name. Right now I just get the number. Thx.

I think having the ~home is messing things up. With caller ID, the phone only recognizes an incoming number. Since it doesn't match up with what you have in the address book (since it has number + wait function), it wont display the person's name associated with it.

I used to have the same issue because I would append some information after a number in my address book. At first I was surprised as to why the person's name didn't show up on caller ID even though I knew I had that person in my phone's address book.

remove the junk after the number, and place the number in the proper place in the Address Book, i.e., home, work, work 2, mobile, etc., and if you need more numbers, place them in the user field below.

There is absolutley no reason other than just "gotta have it that way" to place "~home" or "~mobile" after numbers anymore. The rare occasion I do use such is in the user fields where I might designate a number as the "lakehouse" or "beach" or whatever where it is needed.

I used to append the cell service after the mobile number. That way I'd know if I could make use of the free Tmob-to-Tmob calling. =)

The way I use it is if I have for example Jane and Bob Smith and each have cell phones, office phones a home phone. How do you know who's cell phone and office phone is which in the same address entry? Therefore I put Jane's Mobile or Bob's Office after the number. Anyway to make that work?

If you need this information then create a seperate address book entry for each of them. Then you can have Jane's Cell number in one and Bob's in another.

I have multiple numbers for most of my contacts. If I select by name, it shows me which phone number it is (i.e., work, mobile, etc.). If I select from one of the call logs, they are annotated with (w), (m), etc. Doesn't yours do this? Even when I start typing names and I scroll down to select one, it expands to list all the numbers for the person and tells me which one each is.

yes but if you have two people under the same entry (Bob and Jane Smith) then it is nice to be able to use extra letters at the end of the number to differentiate which number is which. I am a convert from the Treo and love my BB but this one feature the Treo did better.

What is stopping you from having an entry for Bob and one for Jane?

But the BlackBerry does it right. So split the contacts into two and adapt; or don't, and your phone numbers won't appear in the call log correctly. Your choice.

And thus the difference in the future of the two devices.
