I just got my blackberry curve 8310 today and I quickly plug it in to charge for 2 hours. I have already downloaded desktop manager v4.5 and OS 4.5 so I could upgrade it immediatly. So after the 2 hours, i plug in, start up desktop manager, and...nothing. No prompt to upgrade or anything. So then I click on the OS file itself, installed it. Then I started desktop again then got prompted. The load bar seemed not to move at all. Then at about 5 minutes in, there was a screen saying something about a fatal error has occured and it aborted the update. Can anyone help me?

P.S. Are blackberry's 3G? The box that mine came in had a 3G sim card in it, but when I power my blackberry on, it says sim card rejected.

No, only the Bold is 3G. I personally have had fatal errors on every version of 4.5 I have tried to install, but they always work the 2nd time. Just try and upgrade again.

Also, leave it plugged in a lot longer than 2 hours, you need to condition that battery while its new.

Ok, ill go plug it in some more, but why did they ship a 3G sim card with my blackberry if it wont work. Now I have no sim card to store stuff.

you really dont need to store anything on the SIM card anyway, but just because the card says 3G doesn't make such difference, it should still work

There's no such thing as a "3G SIM Card". It's just a SIM card that has some advertising on it. Just marketing for AT&T to indicate to people that they have a 3G network. They've been including that SIM card with their devices since around the time the BlackJack was released years ago.

Is the SIM card activated yet? The message you're getting seems like it's not.
You might want to call AT&T and verify that your wireless service has been provisioned on that SIM card.

When I got it, a card said to call a number to activate my phone. I guess I never really put two and two together (im assuming this would read my sim card).

Yeah, you'll need to call AT&T to activate your service first.
Beyond that... you might also want to hold off on upgrading your OS to 4.5.
Give yourself a little time to become aquainted with the BlackBerry before making any big changes to it.
AT&T hasn't officially released OS 4.5 for the 8310 so they might not even honor your warranty if something goes wrong during the upgrade. While you can install another carrier's OS, it might not be the best idea for an inexperienced user.

also, just a side thing, to install new themes do you need to download the type of them (zen, today, icon) then go to apploader on the desktop manager and add?
