Default n00bus maximus OS upgrade question

Please Login to Remove!

so i tried searching and everything is horribly confusing. This forum says 8300 version of BB OS is 4.5 something, but 8330 is 4.3, so Im confused by that. then if i follow the correct link to verizon wireless's site (id post the link but im not allowed to yet) it says its for BIS only, and I know im on BES. so would it be a bad idea for me to install 4.5 on my VZW 8330 BES BB? again, sooo confused.. Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 9000 4.6.0.67)

Any 8330 os will work on any 8330. As for BES, you *might* need to reactivate after the install. 4.5 is not available on any CDMA device yet, 4.3 is the latest so far.

Jolly good then. I guess ill be waiting for vzw to tell me its ok. But as for them saying the updates are for BIS only and not BEZ, should I steer clear?

You will be waiting quite a while for them to tell you that.

OS loads are good for BIS and BES, there is no distinguishing between the two. Only that you will need a BES activation after doing so.

Calling your BES Admin. Sometimes it can happen automatically, I have heard, on the OS 4.5 upgrades. Your mileage may vary.

ok so lemme get this 100% straight:

i can update my VZW BES 8330 (CDMA) to 4.5 or w/e is on VZW's site even though they say its for BIS only

however

i may need to reactivate, but if it doesnt re-activate itself, then how would i reactivate it?

That's correct. The OS cares not about BES or BIS.

I would, however, clear the upgrade with my BES admin first. For various reasons, he/she may want to keep devices at a certain level.

And 4.5 for the 8330 is not at the verizon site, but "their" latest version is.

I look at it as: Verizon posts the latest OS on their site when they are satisfied that it is compatible with their apps/network and relatively bug-free.
