Default OS 8320 4.2.2.184 - RIM release, non-carrier (Multilanguage) - 08-02-2008, 04:33 PM

Sorry if this has been brought up, a search didn't reveal this tidbit. Poking around for the latest desktop manager, I found that RIM is now offering a download for the 8320 (and 8220) devices themselves, it's not carrier specific:

Code:
Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8320 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.338 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.2.338
Consisting of:

    * Applications: 4.2.2.184
    * Software Platform: 2.5.0.40
    * File name: 8320M_PBr4.2.2_rel338_PL2.5.0.40_A4.2.2.184_RIM.exe
    * File size: 99.73MB
Go to this link:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22

...then choose the 8320 option near the lower part of the list (on my browser, you have to scroll down to actually see this option).

For those of us still choosing to stick to 4.2.2.184 until 4.5 has smoothed out a little, this is a nice option to get a generic release and not have to worry about vendor.xml (at least, I think - still downloading it myself). A nice little download to tuck away for a rainy day.

Ahh, looks like they sneak a browser cookie in there. Try starting from the below link instead, it's 1 click before this actual page:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22

EDIT: checked the above link after a cache clear and browser restart, it works fine now. Original post updated, thanks.

Yeah, that was definitely the best 4.2.2 version for the 8320. I think when .69 is released (or higher) for the 8320 it will beat this 4.2.2 version.

Will this OS work with the 8330 CDMA Curve? Does it effectively debrand the phone? (i.e. remove Sprint logos and spashscreens)

Nope. Only works on the 8320.

Thanks for finding this. Been thinking about downgrading but never had the firmware to do so. Now at least I have the option.
