Default Technical SMS Message Question - 08-04-2008, 09:13 PM

I have a BB curve and for some reason one persons text message when they send a message back to me it has their phone number (even though they are contact in my address book) with the "+" sign in front of it then it has an upside down question mark, "RE" then another upside down question mark and then the message they wrote and the beginning of whatever text message I sent them. I have searched and searched to figure this out, it's mostly frustrating because I can get the full extent of the message because it sends all the junk at the beginning. Anyone that knows anything or at least tell me I'm screwed and it can't be fixed would be fantastic cause its driving me crazy trying to figure out a way to fix it. THANK YOU!!

what carrier are they on?

As mentioned before, older nextels (ones with web-based messaging) will include the previous message in the reply (really annoying)

Some ATT phones will screw up formatting of the phone number.

ALOT of cdma phones, when configured incorrectly by the end user will both include the previous message in the reply, attatch RE: to the subject, and screw up the "include callback number"

If i had to guess, i'd say it was a CDMA user

also - re the number issue - could you have their number in your book twice thus it can't allocate a name to the number cos it is in twice.

Or maybe not their whole number? Does it show their name when they call? Sometimes you may have to add 1-area code-their-number.

'Tis possible anyway. I know this is true for their names not displaying when receiving calls from contacts.
