Default GPS Nav with Verizon Curve

Please Login to Remove!

I am a new Blackberry user. I got the Curve a few days ago, it is my first smart phone. I am thrilled with it except I haven't been able to get any kind of gps nav programs to work. Does this have anything to do with Verizon Wireless being my provider? I've tried Nav4All, amAze, even a unofficial new release of Google Maps.

I am not looking for anything fancy, just something that will track and follow my position, and tell me when the next turn is. Is there anything out there that is free and will do this with my Verizon-provided 8330?

PS: So far, Nav4all just showed a black title screen when opened, I couldn't get it to do anything else, amaze couldn't seem to find my position. And Google maps seems to have the "my location" blip on the map stuck about a half mile from my true location, and no matter where I go, it stays. Any help would be great.

dkbaumbach welcome to the forums. Unfortunately for us Verizon folks the GPS feature on the 8330 is disabled by default. You must subscribe to VZ Navigator for $9.99 a month or the daily rate of $2.99 -- Once subscribed you can download and utilize VZ Navigator which will more than accomplish what you are looking to do. Sorry for the bad news, I wish Verizon would allow us to use our GPS for free like Altell and Sprint.

That confirms what I was afraid of. I'm beginning to hate Verizon and its growing list of restrictions.

There isn't a growing list its only one thing. And if you hate them that much feel free to go to another carrier it is a free country.

Definitely not growing. They've done this for ages. It's the status quo.

keep in mind that us verizon users are getting shortchanged when it comes to their vz nav service, however. those using non-bb phones get the latest vz navigator with traffice, weather, movie showtimes, etc. we're still stuck on a version that is about a year old. of course, verizon has no clue if and when they will provide us with the free update.

Our version of VZ Nav missing some great features that others on dumb phones receive for the same price. I was playing with it today at the Verizon Store, I hope they update the Blackberry version of VZ Nav soon.

I've had Verizon for years and can't complain about their service at all. VZNav works great for me and is certainly worth the price in my opinion!

I am against paying Verizon every month for something I can pay once for and then use for the forseeable future. Is there anyone out there using one of the Freedom 2000 GPS pucks to do the GPS for them on a Verizon phone? I am thinking of buying one and would like to verify that they work with either Blackberry Maps of Google Maps.

Default Really

Why should we have to pay for something of exceptional quality when we could use opensource or freeware that does the same thing and is not so pretty.

Besides, the advertisement on Verizon Wireless for the 8330 says that VZ Navigator is a feature of the phone,
"VZ Navigatorsm for spoken turn–by–turn directions"
along with another feature such as,
"2.0 Megapixel Camera with Flash and Video Capture"
now for something like,
"BroadbandAccess Connect capable"
the word "capable" means there is some limitation to this such as YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.
SO, logic being u have to pay for what it is capable of thus the Broadband Access and the 2.0 Megapixel camera is a feature and u dont pay for it then the statement of VZ Navigator should also be a feature that u dont pay for.

I HATE GETTING SCREWED.

I advice to open a complaint with the FCC and with your local public utilities commission as this is all billed on a public utilities bill.
