I got a problem. When I tried to connect with Media Manager to upload music, my media card is not detected. Moreover, when I connect my BB on my laptop, he asked me to install "RIM Mass Storage Device" (which appear in device management with yellow exclamation). I have tried searching for the driver on my original RIM CD, windows update and just about any place I could think of. I have a BlackBerry Curve 8310 and Windows XP Pro SP3. I'm running OS 4.5.0.55. I have tried reinstall Desktop Manager serveral times. The problem persists with DM 4.2.2 and 4.5. Any ideas?

I tried Desktop Manager 4.6 and nothing changed. This is happening with both my phone and my wife's. She has an 8310 with the same OS. I basically need to find the driver for the "RIM Mass Storage Device." It's not on the CD or in the C:\Windows\System32\ directory. Any ideas where I can find the driver?

Have you tried letting the Window's wizard find it online? I ran into a similar issue -- computer was asking for a driver for "new hardware." It was able to find the BB driver online.

Yup, tried that and it could not find anything.

Okay, I've played with things a little more, but still have not found a solution. My Curve connects correctly with my office PC in Mass media mode. I went into device manager to see what drivers it what using. Here's what I found...

"RIM Blackberry SD USB Device"
Driver Files:
C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\disk.sys
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\PartMgr.sys

Both are provided by Microsoft with the version number being 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2108)

Any suggestions on where I could find the .inf file so I can get my Curve to connect to my laptop properly? Thanks!

Have you done a clean uninstall on the software? wondering if there are some things that are not getting cleaned out.

I'm pretty sure there is a place on RIM's support site to download the drivers. Try reading through these search results -- it should be in there.

My other thought... can you copy the .inf file from your work PC to a flash drive, then copy it to your home PC?

Also, make sure your home PC has all the latest Microsoft updates.

I read through most of the articles you provided in your link. I've tried running a Windows update, and updating the driver through device manager. It fails to find a driver though.

I can't copy the inf file from my work PC because they reference .sys files and not .inf files. I feel like I'm on the brink of figuring this out. I wish I could just manually download the driver from Microsoft, but I have searched their website and couldn't find anything.

So where are you seeing that you need the .inf file? I don't have a .inf file in my Reserach In Motion folder in Programs, or in the system32\drivers folder. Seems like that might be a file on the install CD.

I let it search for the drivers. It then returns back no compatiable drivers are found.

Looking at my BlackBerry Tools cd that came with the device, using Windows Explorer. There is a file named autorun.inf. The text contents of the file say:
[autorun.inf]
open = start.exe

But that refers to running the cd, I think, not to drivers. There's also an Autorun.inf here: E:\files\exec\bbinstaller
It says:
[autorun]
open = BlackBerrySetup.exe

That starts the BlackBerry desktop installation. I don't think either is related to the drivers, but they are the only .inf files I see on the cd. I think whatever is wrong is a Windows problem, not a BlackBerry problem.

Could you try removing the media card from the device and inserting it to a card reader slot on your PC? You'd need the adapter for the card to fit I think.

Does your work pc have the same version of Desktop Manager as your home pc?

I'm about out of ideas, except maybe you could try Desktop Manager 4.3.
When you uninstall, are you using add/remove in the control panel?

Have you tried to remove the device and then refresk the list? Windows should have the correct driver even if you are on xp.
You also do that in the device manager, just right click and delete. Refresh hardware list is under one of the drop downs. (sorry I cant check this as im at work)
