Great, I did the update and it somehow wiped off my Enterprise service books. Is there any way I can manually restore these without having to go through my system administrator? Thanks.

WARNING TO SPRINT USERS: This update eliminates what may have been the Sprint Curve's biggest selling point--the ability to force roaming. I'm "downgrading" right now.

It's in there. When you install the OS, make sure you check the boxes for Docs To Go. You can always plug back in and check the boxes if you didn't the first time. It'll only take a few minutes to load it.

to whoever asked about the media player issue, yes, when you are playing a song on the device and you get an audio alert for a message, mail, IM, whatever, it will interrupt the music to play the sound and then the music will never resume from where it was interrupted. So annoying..

I downloaded and ran the install program for the 4.5 update. When I run DM, it doesn't find the update. I know it installed because I can find the folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8330-v4.5.0.56_P3.2.0.44

I'm running the latest version of Desktop Manager (4.5).

When DM runs, it says "Checking for application updates". It doesn't find anything and just does the normal sync. If I go into update applications, it's not listed there as an option either.

If you can help, please PM me.

Thanks.

P.S. - There is no vendor file to delete so that is not the issue.

I figured it out. I was looking in the wrong spot for the vendor.xml file.

Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

Upgrade in progress now.

no issues so far. one complaint is that docs to go edits word and powerpoint files... why not excel? if the answer is because you can already view excel files then i say not good enough bc the docs to go interface would be much better. i mean really... i open 487 excel files per day and maybe one powerpoint per month. also i cant remove the default email settings application anymore through the dm or the bb(?) anyone know which cod's are responsible for this?

Ok, I got everything loaded (including Docs to Go) and things seem to working fine except for one thing. The biggest feature I was interested in is HTML email. My email doesn't look any different and things with images, don't show. Is there something I need to turn on?

You need to resend the service books and it will only work on new email, not one 's already on the BB.

Think that was their plan, to allow docs n powerpoint to entice people into buying the app to get the rest.

one of the annoying things is that you can only edit docs.. cant create new ones without the premium service. SO.... copy a blank doc to your bb. anytime you need to create a new doc just copy and rename the blank one

Why would you want to force roaming? Aren't there charges applied for that?

For most Sprint plans, roaming is included. Forcing roaming is key for locations where there is a weak but practically unusable Sprint signal and the only way to have a reliable connection is to force it to roam. Otherwise the BlackBerry spends all its time locking on to the weak Sprint signal, losing it, locking on to the roaming signal, but dropping that in turn because it detects a weak Sprint signal, and on and on. This results in unreliable connections and much diminished battery life. The ability to force my 8330 to roam (which, thankfully, I only have to do a handful of days each month) is the reason why I switched from my 8830 and why I haven't ported to another carrier.

I did this and it added Excel (Sheet to Go or something), but then I connected the BB to the PC and opened DM and it wanted to remove all files associated with Excel because it could not be recognized..so I let it do that since it'll prompt me everytime and now Excel is gone! And when I go to update again, it says it is the most up to date so I cannot download Excel again since it doesn't need to update the app again. Any ideas how to get it back? Why did DM not recognize the app and remove the several files associated with it???

Default experience with os 4.5 - 08-12-2008, 03:47 PM

I successfully downloaded and installed 4.5 on my curve last night.

All went as expected, except for some reason it unregistered my BES account. It was a simple matter to get it reactivated at work in the morning, but I wonder why the install trashes the relevant information so that such is not needed.

Also, you have to install Documents to Go seperately. Look in aps after the OS install is done, and it will be there. I don't have HTML e-mail yet, probably because my company has not yet updated its blackberry enterprise software.

My overall sense is the blackberry now operates faster in terms of respnsiveness to the keyboard, and such things as shut down and turn on. I also note several new features, including wireless update that should be useful. The browswer seems a bit tighter as well

Can somebody please upload the dark honeycomb-style background that comes default with 4.3? I really hate the default wallpaper and was really enjoying the one i had before with 4.3.

Ok, dloaded it, installed it to PC, opened DM and it started backing up my BB, then my breaker shut down the electricity (cause of a new hottub)

So redid the steps and got it successfully installed. I've played around a little bit with it, and all works so far: all old apps work (some required re-registering), camera and video work, all media is still intact

The only frustration I found is that it starts the pic count back to one. Also, because the BB is updating just about everyextra apps that were installed, it's slow as molasse

edit: after 24 hours, its running flawlessly, without a glitch.

Good job RIM!

I installed it. It works just fine, and I've had no trouble with it at all.

It just seems.... laggier and slower than the Curve 4.3 OS.

Docs to go is nice, though. And when you register it (it's free), you get the free update that includes Sheets To Go (it comes with Word To Go, and Slide To Go).

The only drawback to the FREE version of Docs To Go is that you can't create new documents. You can only open existing ones.

Now granted, you could always make a blank doc to use, one for each... LOL

Open up one of the Docs To Go programs. Register it. Then "Check For Updates." You'll get a maintenance release update that includes Sheets To Go.

Default Seems fine - 08-12-2008, 09:54 PM

I just finished upgrading to 4.5.0.56 and all seems fine so far. No noticeable increase/decrease in performance but time will tell.

My accounts came through fine but I need to cleanup my home screen (organize and hide the icons I do not want).
