I never used .56, but .66 is quite stable. At least compared to .31 *shudder*

This software is quite stable. I've been running it since yesterday with zero problems and it fixed a problem I was having before with a couple aps working. The only neg I can see is that battery life seems to have suffered a little bit but I have more than one battery so that's not a big deal.

Quick question -- and this is a serious question, not trying to be snyde or anything: with html email with the new OS and BIS, why would you need empower email viewer?

because empower lets you choose background and font colors, font style, font size, separator design, etc....very customizable and nice looking! That's among other things...

I got used to the color schemes with empower that I prefer that over just a plain white screen when I look at my emails through 4.5's html viewing. Its much nicer IMO.

Exactly, just beat me to it. I emailed empower now to see what they say. This is my only gripe with 4.5. Funny, everyone complained about not having html viewing......I'm complaining because it has it. Empower is without a doubt much better, easier on the eyes

why? the same reason you do it on your computer... because spammers can identify you with "web beacons". when you open the image in an email its downloaded from a webserver... they now have your ip address, know where you came from, AND are sure that they sent to a live address.

Also, you have to install Documents to Go seperately. Look in aps after the OS install is done, and it will be there. I don't have HTML e-mail yet, probably because my company has not yet updated its blackberry enterprise software.

My overall sense is the blackberry now operates faster in terms of respnsiveness to the keyboard, and such things as shut down and turn on. I also note several new features, including wireless update that should be useful. The browswer seems a bit tighter as well
where is the wireless update? i saw it once now i cant find it again... and when i tried it didnt work anyway, i got some error. but where is it?!?

all you have to do is move them to a backup folder somewhere. don't uninstall them because you'll need to move them back if you want to downgrade/go back.

Default HTML E-mail - 08-13-2008, 02:57 PM

Just to be clear on something (I know that this point has pretty much been beat to death and I apologize in advance) HTML e-mail would need to be enabled from my BES in order for me to see that in e-mail correct?

I don't have any personal e-mail accounts setup on my BB right now and after the upgrade, my e-mail doesn't look any different. I have done a battery pull, resent service books (although I didn't get a message about this) and even done the VZW *228 upgrade.

When I go to Message > Options > E-mail Settings, there is no option to enable HTML e-mail. Am I missing something??

Updated on a VZW Curve a few hours ago. Browser, Gmail, and general maneuverability seem a bit quicker, no hesitation. So far so good here.

Apps after Upgrade
GMail - Login
MLBTracker - Worked
Brickbreaker - High score still there
Viigo - Sign in with account un/pw
Vlingo - Rerun through setup wizard
Guitar Hero 3 - Need activation key
JiveTalk - Worked
Google Maps - Worked

somebody axed about the preloaded pix awhile back, yes they're not included so you'll have to add them back in like with the betas if you want them back.

Anyone have a link to the official release notes? Aside from the HTML mail support (not really keen on that anyway since we have crappy data plans), are there any other dealbreakers that are a must-have for upgrading?

The vendor file should be in: c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
Assuming C: is where you have window installed. Replace c with what ever drive letter windows is installed on if different.

Your not getting the prompt to install the upgrade because you haven't removed the vendor.xml file first. Locate it, delete it then restart the desktop manager and it should prompt.

On another note, 4.5.056 works great for me. No problems at all. It does seem quicker and the browser seems a bit faster as well. Looking forward for the official .66 release, hopefully the kinks are worked out of it.

Upgraded my Verizon BB 8330 yesterday afternoon following the instructions in this thread.

Worked well, no issues.

HTML email came through on all accounts as soon as the service books refreshed. But for those worries it does not load images in html mail by default, you have to tell it too on each email, which is nice, no auto notifying spammers that way.

Everything else is working just fine, not necessarily faster than before but just as fast.

I was hoping that this would unlock draconian lock Verizon has on the GPS but no.. still no native GPS unless you pay them for their crappy nav software.

All in all a good update, worth the effort.

I installed the update given on the first post of this thread and my blackberry now shows 4.5.0.33
Is that normal or should it be .82?

First time BB user and just got my BB a little over a week ago and was hesitant about doing this upgrade, everything went OK except for the fact that my laptop froze up during install!! Really had me worried, but I rebooted pc and hooked up BB again and it finished OK, just had to come back to these posts a couple of times to figure a couple of things out.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone!

Installed and works fine, but it nerfed my ability to change folder icons. Anyone know if there's a way to get this back?

I noticed my BB is faster now that I installed 4.5 vs. 4.3...

Ok upgraded 2 days ago. I'm with Alltel and I am having major issues with MMS. Never could recieve video and knew this upgrade wouldn't help because its an Alltel issue. With that out of the way, I can recieve picture messages, but I can't send them or send ringtones thru MMS like I could before. Called Alltel (didn't mention that I upgraded hehe) deleted the MMS service books and had them resent and nothing. Everytime I send a MMS it turns into a hateful little clock and eventually a red x. I can't change my folder color either. But thats not a major issue.
On the upside:
Browser runs faster
Love the HTML
Everything else works fine
HTML or sending MMS? Hard decision.
Anyone else have this problem?

I noticed the call answer lag also. I just wait a second before I respond now. And the alt+enter doesn't work for me.

Does it matter? The 8330 has 96Mb...Install this and do the memory optimization and you'll plenty of free memory.

since when can't a question be asked without that kind of response, your taking the fun out of coming to this site anymore,
you shouldn't answer a question with a question, shows signs of immaturity (attitude adjustment needed)

Thanks for your advice, Dr.

My point is that the 8330 has more memory than any Blackberry (other than the upcoming new releases.) Your question can't be answered as you didn't give enough info. Does the memory increase, decrease or stay the same....as opposed to what version?

It just seems.... laggier and slower than the Curve 4.3 OS.

Docs to go is nice, though. And when you register it (it's free), you get the free update that includes Sheets To Go (it comes with Word To Go, and Slide To Go).

The only drawback to the FREE version of Docs To Go is that you can't create new documents. You can only open existing ones.

Now granted, you could always make a blank doc to use, one for each... LOL
After using both the 4.5 OS and the 4.3 OS back to back for the last week, I have changed my mind, and I now prefer the new 4.5 OS.

After a battery pull, it does seem to run smoother than the 4.3 OS.

And you can't beat FREE Docs To Go.

When you installed 4.5 you had to install both the Desktop Software, and the Device software.

Uninstall the Device Software, and you'll no longer have that problem.
