Default OS: 8330 4.5.0.82/4.5.0.56 MultiLanguage - 08-10-2008, 07:12 PM

OS 4.5 has been released for the 8330 via MTS Mobility:

Download here: Edit 08/28/08: MTS has pulled the downloads for the OS's from the site. Hopefully, something will go back up soon.

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...027FA84709689E

Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8330 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.82 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.82
Consisting of:
* Applications: 4.5.0.56
* Software Platform: 3.2.0.44
* File name: 8330AMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel82_PL3.2.0.44_A4.5.0.56_MTS.e xe
* File size: 72.84MB

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8330:

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager installed. Click here to download, if needed.
2. Then Download the above mentioned OS file to the PC and install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

To find previous versions of the OS for this device, click http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ge-sprint.html

And the file name says 8130 not 8330. But they are both there to download.

Sorry, my fault. I copied the info from the 8130 download, but yeah, they're there to download. It could just be the site is real busy. Hopefully, they'll get it fixed soon!

so this is perfectly okay to use on a Verizon 8330? What's different between this release and the 4.5 that Verizon will release??

also, the OP says this: "Software For BlackBerry® Pearl (TM) 8330 smartphone".
You should change it to CURVE 8330! lol

Still getting the 9003 error as well now (it's 12:14 am EST now)

For those brave enough to download and try this new release, please post thoughts or comments about performance, compatibility with 3rd party apps etc etc. Thanks!! I am so excited about this release since i have been trying not to install anything non official or in this case not distributed by RIM. I am sure RIM servers are getting pounded right now...LOL

Yes, you can install it on a Verizon device. Verizon could release this version...then it would be official Verizon. Or they could wait for the next one. Nothing makes these carrier "official" except when they decide to release it.

Possibly. They could wait for a later version, too. Nobody will know until they release it.

Okay I got it to download..

How has no one commented on this version yet or reviewed it? People have been waiting so long for an official release..

I realize it says 4.5.0.82 but it also says Applications version is 4.5.0.56. Does that mean this is more outdated than 4.5.0.66 or should I be going by the .82 and assume that it is more updated?

I'm confused, John maybe you can help. Even though it says 4.5.0.82, it says Application version is 4.5.0.56. And after I installed the package on the PC, the Shared Files folder show it as 4.5.0.56. So the 4.5.0.66 beta version I already had will be more updated and stable and more bug-free than this official release?? Thanks

Yes, if you've installed a later "unreleased" beta then this would be a downgrade. Our sticky threads are only for "officially released" versions.

Oh okay, thanks for the information John.
Is there any way you can visit my thread here http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ml#post1054123 and reply in there and let me know if you can help me with those 2 problems when you get a chance (if you can)? I'm severely stuck. I appreciate it.

How can a mobile company officially release this right now? Even in 4.5.0.66 beta for 8330, there are clearly bugs and lag issues as well as a few other small things that many have noticed. I don't understand. The stock 4.3 OS is way smoother and less laggy than these betas, including this now slightly outdated 4.5.0.56 one.

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry Curve 4.6.0.62)

I'm running 66 and my device is as stable as it was on 4.3. I haven't experienced any bugs what so ever. So how can you say that its more buggy than a released version of 56?

Dawg,

with the .66 does your curve lag when sending SMS? My curve slow was down when I am trying to send or reply to a text message.

I haven't received the red "x" either when sending a text message since .66 and have found it to be quite responsive. I won't be installing this MTS release.

See everytime I want to send a Text, the BB reacts slowly. I have to wait for the input to catch up to me and I am not a fast typer or anything like that. There is like a 3 key delay. I have to wait to make sure I am typing what I want it to say. Otherwise, there are no issues that I have found with this version. I should just do a complete reinstall and see what happens.

Yes. Just follow the DL instructions in the first post (especially deleting the vendor.xml) and it will work.
