I've turned off "Dial from Home screen" and want to be able to use application shortcuts from my home screen. But even with speed dial turned off, pressing keys still speed dials. What gives?

Tap every so quickly the key for the shortcut, press a second for the speed dial. They are now dual-purpose!

I was wondering this myself. I looked, and didn't find anything so I'm assuming the answer is no, but if someone knows for sure either way that would be great.

The answer is no. You can assign your Side Convenience Keys to open various applications.
