Default New Curve coming to Sprint - 08-13-2008, 12:26 PM

So BGR has a short piece on Sprint's iDen Roadmap and they're getting the 8350i Curve. What struck me is that it has EVERYTHING we've been told wouldn't fit into a Curve casing: WiFi, GPS, camera. This is the device we wanted in GSM a couple of years ago!

I must assume (dangerous, I know!) that recent advances in technology have made it possible to include all these features in one unit, whereas before it just wasn't possible. The only other explanation is some kind of freaky conspiracy between RIM and the carriers. Don't get me started on that. I WILL get Mulder and Scully on the case if need be.

I can't get too bent out of shape at this point, but dammmmm! I whined and b!tched that I couldn't get both GPS and WiFi in my Curve back when they came out individually as the 8320 and 8310. I remember the rumors of a "Pappa Bear" model that would sport all three features, and the manic highs and lows with each new rumor. "I'm waiting for the model with both WiFi and GPS" was my rallying cry. But I couldn't hold out. The Curve was revolutionary. And of course I was on T-Mobile then and T-Mo was the last carrier in the Universe to get the Curve. So I knuckled under (rather quickly) and got an unlocked model. We had to jump through hoops to get it to work properly since T-Mobile didn't have the service books for it.

All that aside, the true Pappa Bear is finally coming. To Sprint! Who'd have thunk it?

I don't care if the 8350i has a built-in golf ball washer.
You're still stuck on an iDEN network.

It sure is one sharp looking device, but yea, you're on the slowest network around (iDEN). This device will not work on the Sprint CDMA network.

I do like the option of camera or no camera - something many companies would like as they struggle with the camera policies.

I'm happy with my 8330 from sprint. I don't need the wi fi.

Actually since so many people have jumped off the so-called "sinking ship" we know as Nextel, my service has never been better! And since the phone has WiFi, most internet occassions will be absolutely fine. The 8350i can't get here quick enough! Not to mention, it is IMO the best looking Curve by far! Black-berry, get it? How about that bright silver on Verizon? Or charcoal with white keys on AT&T? Or wait, I know... how about gold on T-Mo? Seriously? Sorry, it's just me... any color is fine, so long as its black!
